MBBALL ISU Game Thread

That's a game the GRIZ lose a few years ago. As Riley said in the post game, "It's different in Missoula this year!".

I agree with 75. I cannot recall a GRIZ team with this many reliable scorers since maybe 13-14 with Jamar, Gregory, DeShields, Wise, GFeller, and Bruenig.

I also agree with Peaux: great grit down the stretch and some mighty freaking strange officiating. I liked the way they called the first half: that's how ncaa games are officiated. But in the second they lost complete control, and finished it off with awarding the bungles the ball when they didn't deserve it. Missing a call is one thing; not knowing the rules at this level is unacceptable.

We need the spuds to finish above the bungles to own the tiebreak.

Go GRIZ!

Griz had to beat ISU and the refs tonight. God damn that’s the worst refs we’ve seen since the Utah State game. These guys were awful. They gave ISU 5 free points on a phantom flagrant foul, and then awarded them the ball despite us getting the rebound allowing them to get 3 more points. Regardless, awesome job to slam the door and pull away after they got it down to 2. This team just continues to impress. 5 guys again in double figures and Sawyer was close. Onto Weber!
I didn't see the flagrant call, but doesn't the team that is fouled maintain possession after the foul shots?

Yes.

But the issue in this case is that the bs flagrant was not called until after the isu possession in which they had an opportunity to score, and after UM had control of the basketball. Had isu scored on that possession, it obviously would be unfair and ridiculous to award the hoop, the two FTs AND the basketball for yet another possession.

Had the officials stopped play prior to isu shooting, missing and UM rebounding, 2 FTs and the ball would have been warranted. But in this case isu essentially got an extra possession.

Make sense?

Watching the game last night, I couldn’t help but notice the similarities between Dylan Darling and former UNC Bears player Devon Beitzel.
1) Dribble drive 2) flail arms and legs while forcing up a garbage shot 3) get bailed out by a BSC ref calling a foul on the defender 4) make a killing at the free throw line.
Repeat items 1-4 ad nauseam.

The announcers mentioned that they were not familiar with this officiating crew, and that two of them were from Kentucky. What were they doing in Missoula on a wintry February night?!?
