is this the swagger we were promised?

Positive body language, yes we need it. Swagger, no we don’t need or want it! Our players need to be confident, but humble. Never with an arrogant, pompous attitude.

But that's "BOBBY BALL"

The time-honored Transitive Property gets really fun later in the season.

yeah, can't wait for the discussions about how some other coach would've done.

*edit* - not counting the ones that have already been made about how much more fire, grit, focus and determination this team has compared to, say, last year's. as evidenced by last saturday, especially.
Your stylus is stuck in the same groove.

Never humble, with an arrogant, pompous attitude like J.D. Quinn. I'd love to have five of him. DOLA defined.

the attitude? the toughness that was missing? the i'm-gonna-compete-harder-than-the-other-guy belief that was supposed to be instilled in the players? i really want to know, are we there yet? there were so many "promises" made about the magic of hauck, i lost count. was the swagger visible in that big win over sac state, or maybe cal poly? drake?

also, which win was the big 'signature' type win that the old coaches couldn't manage? uni? drake? sac state? cal poly? please help me out here, those who can see bobby's greatness. where can i find the swagger?

You are annoying, and I think you know it.

haslem said he hired hauck to get the swagger back. pretty sure he did indeed use the word "swagger". dunno if hauck ever said it.

i think the griz have played hard every year i've watched. while i suppose there are ways one could try to quantify "playing hard" by counting plays taken off (given up on by a player) during the game, or some such measure, i don't know how accurate it would be. the only ones who could probably reallyanswer are the players themselves - and only really for themselves as individuals. ask ten from this year and ten from last year if their team played "harder", you might get 20 different answers. also, what's more important, playing hard, or playing smart and efficient? you have heard of the phrase 'trying too hard', right? maybe this team has been put in a position where they are doing just that, and making extra mistakes because of it?

it was good that um won the uni game, but uni, which overall appeared to have the better team, doesn't look like that good of a team, given their record. in fact, none of the teams montana have played look that good on paper, yet they are only 4 - 2. not sure what losing to cal poly in 2015 and 2016 has to do with anything.

are you trying to say that attitude/emotion don't affect how college football players play? i thought one of the points of hiring bobby was to instill the attitude it takes to win?

on another note, anybody know what the combined records are of the teams montana has played so far? i'm guessing it isn't very good.
You clearly either missed the CPSLO game or watched through your "Never Hauck" narrative. Protheroe was quoted after the game that he had never played against a more physical team. They are young and going to be up and down, but they are hitting people hard. Consistency will come in time. A work in progress after 6 games.

The only opponent W/L record that is important is UND. They are 3-2.

How can you judge NI as weak, at this point? They have lost only to UM, Iowa (38-14) and NDSU.

WI has lost to MSU, Illinois and Ill. St. Ill St. is 4-1.

Drake has lost only to UM.

Aren't you a researcher.? Try doing some research before posting.

what am i supposed to research, "greenie's alternative facts", the resource that says uni and wiu are good teams, despite their losing records? ok. i guess i should've qualified that 'good' meant at least winning more games than losing.

and drake is... drake.

as for the cal poly comment about hard hitting, i'm pretty sure other teams in the last three years came away saying the griz were 'hard hitting', probably because the previous coaches recruited some good, hard-hitting players like buss, olsen, etc... it wasn't like they were going to stop hitting hard because hauck is the coach.

geez you old men are bad at arguing.

My facts are the facts. Yours are shallow and alternative, I guess.

Drake has a winning record. I guess you are good with them being good? Drake is leading the conference that has been beating Big Sky teams in the playoffs.

Yes, I see no shame in FCS teams losing to the likes of Iowa, Illinois, Ill. St., and EWU. It's too early to tell where NI and WI will end up. If you had ever played the game, or even been close to it, you would know this.

The CP comment wasn't just hard-hitting. It was that UM was the hardest hitting team they had played. Big difference.

It is absolutely clear that UM is playing harder and hitting much harder this year, than last year. And that includes Buss. Straight from the coaches. Other astute posters will confirm that the Griz are hitting harder this year, and generally tackling better.

Hell even one would make a huge difference. This current lineup is not physically or mentally dominating any team. There is no knock the snot off them blocks or driving them downfield on their heels. Thought maybe the lone returner would maybe be this type of guy this year, but not.

Couldn't agree more, Spanky!

Swagger is what unconfident men think is confidence.

J.D Quinn played the game at a very high level. Few were at his equal. He didn’t need swagger. I would settle for one of him.

I used to curse JD up and down for all of his personal fouls. Then inevitably I’d watch the replay and he was always protecting a teammate. Loved that guy.

I did him a disservice above in suggesting he was pompous and arrogant. A proper descriptor for JD on the football field would be f..ing mean, baby.

I love JD Quinn. Great and tough football player. Yes, it would be great to have for more Quinn's on the Griz o-line. Fun guy. Very smart. Very loyal. His dad played college football and is a psychologist, I believe. Think he has a PhD.

There is no one in the world that I would rather have in my corner in a tough situation. He would not hesitate to risk his life to save a friend, or even someone he didn't know. As he did an Arkansas flood a umber of years ago.

A year after he graduated, Brent Russum and I went to the Hong Kong 7's rugby tourney. We bunked together. Man, could those guys party. I was tired just knowing how late they were staying out. Huge fun.

 R U Serious!?! Is this a serious question? Dude this is haucks first year back with a team that had 16 scholarships to WR and 6 Oline with scholarships. This is not his team at all. I Think you need to hold off on ignorant questions like this until next year this time... dang

I would LOVE to hear your backup for that ridiculous statement. SIX O-linemen with schollies? GFAFB.

There’s a reason we don’t have a lot of JD Quinns.

They go to the Oklahomas of the world....until something untoward happens.

True, true, true. We are, after all, in the minor leagues. We forget....

Yeah @azgrizfan I sort of had a hard time to track down information to this comment in a few games this year by commentators, as I don't have the insight or smarts of Bwhalberg, but this is what I based off of as some evidence of this recruiting technique by Stitt:
2016 signing day: https://missoulian.com/sports/colle...cle_27b13d06-2507-5dd2-bb3e-ae7710377b2f.html
2017 signing day: https://missoulian.com/sports/colle...cle_fd1eaa71-9b39-5747-a019-327beaba4f13.html

And think you meant to say "GMAFB" :thumb: Unless You meant "Griz Football Are F**'n Beasts" :?

No true Swagsman has to talk about his Swag. And I'm dead serious about this.
