Is this correct?

"John Nguyen tore off an 81-yard touchdown run, the longest in school history, on the first play (of the 2nd half)."

The longest in school history?

On the broadcast they said it was the longest run since like 1968 so I don't think that is correct.

Edit:
Longest run from scrimmage: 88 yards vs Carroll college 1925 wild bill Kelly. It is the longest TD run since 1968.

Thank you. I mean, 120 years or so of Griz football? 81 yds just didn't seem right.

Good call. I didn't know for sure but would have called BS on it too. Who exactly said this?

The Missoulian noted this morning that it was the longest SCORING run, not the longest run from line of scrimmage.

It is correct. Old record is held by Mike Mickey, Bob Smith, and one other. Can't remember the other name.

Jefferson Heidelberger, on the first play from scrimmage against Idaho in 2003, on an end-around.

Peter took a lot of abuse on the internet, as did John, but this year, he is just outstanding; almost transformed in his ability to juke and run. Still not a speed demon, but, he's outrunning the guys he needs to outrun; and he's really found a way to get extra yards in the pile-ups.

And not get hurt. Kid's tough.

And John has not lost a fumble since his frosh year. Had a few, but none lost. Griz rb's and receivers have hung onto the ball pretty well this year.

i agree, peter is just outstanding this year.

having said that, what i think you meant to say was that john nguyen has altered his running style and that has resulted in extra yards? i don't know - my perception is that he has made similar moves and shown the same level of toughness all his 3 1/2 years in missoula.

How many yards does Nguyen have this year?

John Nguyen has 76 carries for 390 yards (4.9 yards per carry) and has scored one touchdown. He is averaging a team-best 61.7 yards per game for a team rushing for 146.5 yards per outing.

Jeremy Calhoun has 319 yards on 50 carries (6.4 yards per rush) and leads the Big Sky Conference with nine rushing touchdowns.

I don't think Nguyen has improved that much since he's always been very good and extremely versatile as a receiver and blocker. No assessment is complete without including those things. There has been a very weird anti-Nguyen silliness going on here since way back when Alpha and his infantile acolyte punks started in on Peter with their looney over reaction to the fumbling thing.

Said it before, when Peter and then John were getting trashed by a few posters here, that I'm glad the Nguyen boys chose Montana to play football. Good, tough, reliable running backs. We're better for having them on the team!

GO GRIZ!
