truth is always seen and seldom heard. (remember katrina?) and i've been guilty of praising some recruits i hadn't seen--stockton, woods, ward. still haven't seen woods or ward, but when i finally saw stockton last year at portland state, i thought he was awfully slow. but then our entire team looked like ice sculptures that game.
as to the two i saw before their arrival--swift and cherry. swift was a very good player on a high school championship team but something happened at montana. krysko "heidelbergered" him as a freshman, blowing off a redshirt year for about twenty minutes. even at sac state, with the game decided and many of swift's family and friends in the crowd, krysko did not play him a single second. the next year at sacto he got into the game, and quickly demonstrated he was about the only montana player capable of creating his own shot, of slicing to the basket. still, he only got a few minutes. what the behind-the-scenes story was, i never knew.
cherry has a lousy shot--that's why we got him. still, his quicks and athleticism are incredible. if he's not a star in the big sky conference, i will have created yet another "hairy" situation.
