Is the hiring of Mick a good sign for things to come?

The reason I ask is why would a guy who was in retirment take a job on if he had any thoughts that the NCAA would levy any type of heavy sanctions on the school. I would imagine that the thing to do would be to wait to see what the ruling was before signing any sort deal. So does he know something?

Besides knowing that he has an opportunity to right the ship of a team and University that he loves and has been a part of? I don't think you need to read into anything about him signing a contract and it meaning we are free and clear from NCAA violations. I think he sees the University needs stability and needs a leader and he can accomplish that.

He knows nothing about possible "heavy sanctions", and neither does the President of our school. Absolutely zero communication between the NCAA and Engstrom since the NCAA announced its "investigation." If you have ever met Mick Delaney you would know he is not a "wait and see" type of guy. He will put those players in that lockeroom way before himself and put the program and University above all his personal interests. If the NCAA last week gave us a three year postseason ban (no way anything remotely close to that happens) Delaney would still sign that extension.

Delaney is one of the few good guys in College football. He likes COACHING and the players FIRST. I'm sure he has some ego somewhere, but the fact is he believes if you do things right and your best good things follow.

Beyond that I can think of 300,000 reasons to do what you love and NOT have to worry about tomorrow. Unlike most coaches he can do it his way and if others don't like it............

Ya that will all be good and great in theory but what happens when people are pitching 4sale signs in his yard and harrassing his family? Then will it be such a good idea. I wouldn't jump on a sinking ship no matter how much I loved the crew.

The jury is out on Mick, just like any new coach. We'll see end of season. Maybe the Griz will get a NC under Mick. We'll see. But, I'm glad for the enthusiasm he has for the Griz and the enthusiasm of the fans for him. I wish him all success for not only himself, but for the Griz, and UM. Yet, we'll see.
