yeah, looking forward to that but stirring up something regional would be cool, very marketable. some yearly thing like the big 10 acc challenge.Grizbacker1 said:AtHomeInTheDahlbergDen said:Better Idea: some sort of regional tournament w/ UW, washington st, oregon, osu, Zags

citygriz said:my understanding is, the basketball coaches have a lot of input into the scheduling. but the reality remains: no big school wants to come to missoula to play the griz. we get colorado state only because we agreed to play two games there, but even that is not enough in most cases. mark few might be good friends with tinks, but no high-profile program is going to risk a national ranking with a loss in missoula. ask trent johnson. that loss to us was devastating to his program that year, and i guarantee you, we'll see the new york yankees playing triple-a ball before we see stanford in missoula again.
no, the only way we're going to see quality teams and star players on a consistent basis is to move up to a better conference. i know basketball attendance is down everywhere, and that there are several other issues affecting our basketball progam--the popularity of football, the deportation of the students to outer slovenia, the mid-90's run of sub-par seasons.
but another factor is the degraded quality of the competition the past ten years, with the defection of idaho, nevada and boise state. who can forget idaho coming in undefeated and ranked five in the country, or the nevada teams with trent johnson, or the boise state teams with chris childs. weber is still capable of bringing in strong teams, but rodney stuckey was a total fluke, and there you have it for the big sty conference.
a move up might be controversial for football, but it would be a flat-out bonanza for basketball. we'd be in the upper echeons of the wac right now, assuring us more tv games, more than one shot at the big dance, and a higher quality of competition in missoula. all the more reason to hope for a revival of the basketball tradition at montana.

yeah, the fact that it won't happen for a while makes me sooo sick. is there any way to move all other sports without bringing the football program?

Think about this as you watch the Griz kill NoCo, not some OOC cupcake, a regular in conference opponent. makes me want to throw up. The football program, which thinks it's so much better than everyone else is actually holding the rest of the athletic department back.

Good luck with that. Zags games are sold out for at least the next five years. You MIGHT be able to get some, but it will cost you some coin!!

I knew they were sold out but was hoping someone might end up with an extra ticket or can't go or whatever. Figured it would cost me a ton though and as much as I'd like to go, I'm not sure just how much I'm willing to part with for that game.

Yeah, I hear ya. However, I've been to four games in the Kennel and it is an experience!! So if you do get lucky and get a chance to go I would highly recommend it :dope:

I've heard it's awesome. My brother works for a company in Spokane that had 4 season tickets and didn't renew them this year in protest to the reinstatement of Heytvelt and Davis. I told him to protest all you want...there are a thousand others who will gladly take your tickets.
