Is NM really THAT good?

Fine, SOS is defintely different. The Lobo's have some impressive wins against big names, but they were early in the season and IN THE PIT. Who knows what's going to shake out Thursday night? But I feel if we show up with our A game, we CAN compete and we CAN win. NO FEAR GUYS!

So beating #11 BYU in front of 22,600 Cougar fans and #25 UNLV in front of 18,500 Rebel fans aren't big wins on the road? What IS a big win to you?

you guys are saying you can strait up beat the #8 team in the country

I have nothing but respect for UNM and believe they fully deserve a 3 seed.

And yes, Montana can absolutely straight up beat the #8 team in the country. It will take a complete game, but if the Griz play as they are capable, it will be a 2 or 3 point game in the last 4 to 5 minutes, and then anything is possible.

Ya sweeping BYU and beating them on their homecourt where they are 111-10 over the last 8 years while they were ranked #11, no big deal. I'm sure Montana would have done the same. And by the way that was the second to last game of the regular season. Is it Thursday yet?

Washington or Marquette in the second round...

What happened to most of you guys? You guys were all amazing yesterday, complimenting UNM, and now you are acting like you will totally dominate the game....

Bit of an overstatement, don't you think? We do have a lunatic fringe here --I'm sure you guys do too -- but not even the lunatic fringe thinks the Griz will "dominate" tomorrow. The most optimistic predictions I have seen have the Griz hanging around and then somehow finding a way to win in the last couple of minutes. If that did happen it wouldn't be "domination."

Well, never heard of either one... but after noticing UNM choked on 5 of 6 freethrows in the final 28 seconds against this BYU school, I think our strategy should be to Hack-a-Hardeman everytime down the floor and never let you guys shoot from the field. We'd win in a romp. The end justifies the means! Go Griz... OBTW... we clobbered the University of Great Falls... did you? Take that!!
PS: Does UNM have a football team? Maybe we could schedule a nice, friendly game this fall. But then again, the NCAA is getting on us pretty hard for scheduling too many patsies... nevermind.

Bingo! Any team with "great" in their name HAS to be good. How many teams did the Lobos beat with great in their name, huh? Plus no self-respecting conservative would ever be a fan of ANY team with "U.N." in their name. U.N.L.V. and U.N.M. are teams run by the New World Order. And if the name isn't enough, they both have red as one of their uniform colors. Proof positive: Commies.

Amen Brother!! I think we should make this a real MONTANA vs. UNM Game... Chad Adams (the only NEW MEXICO player on the roster) of Albuquerque (1.7 ppg, 1.1 rpg, 0.1 apg) vs. Derek Selvig of Glendive (5.9 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 1.8 apg)... We'd even spot you the H!

It's weird. You study the Lobo's schedule, especially since Feb. 1, and they don't dominate - they JUST win. UNM's 3-point accuracy is bad on the road. Their FT shooting varies from game to game from medicocre to decent.
You look at the Griz schedule and we have 5 losses of six points or less. Evidently, those are the games that New Mexico WON during their season. We could easily be 27-4, and that's including losses at Denver (7), at MSU (9), at Weber (8) and home against Northern Colorado (11).

BEAT #23 UNLV 18,000 fans

BEAT NMSU by 12 in front of 12k plus

So thats a bit of an understatement huh??

12-3 ON THE ROAD this yr!!!!
7 straight road victories is telling!!!

UNM shooting prct is higher on the road Mr Mayor.... Their BETTER on the road..

Really should know a lil more nxt time b4 you make stories up!!

Funny how some Griz fans are smacking a top 10 team.... Guess you are getting the rize out of the Lobo fans you wanted. This has the same feeling that Nevada did a couple of years ago. I hope the Griz TEAM shows up as most people are only talking about Johnson and no one else. Will be fun to watch

Okay... who is this really... MY ex-wife? Only she would go this far out her way to make me eat my type... Okay buddy, thems fighting words... San Jose, 6:30 p.m. PDT, be there!! PS... UM winning streak is 3... how long is your winning streak? Gotcha!!! YOUR ONLY AS GOOD AS YOUR LAST GAME... LOSER!!!!

Just a couple weeks since some of us were calling for the Griz to be done and questioning our coach's ability. I recall saying the "hype for next year" season was about to begin so have definitely had to eat my words, but glad to do so.

I like the sound of "New Mexico" better than "Georgetown", "Michigan State" , "Oklahoma State", or even "Cal" or "Florida" but understand our task is a big one.

We need big games from more than just AJ. I really look to Qvale, Staudacher and Selvig for support. I think Stauds and Qvale in particular are due, especially offensively. We need to come out strong and avoid the puzzling lapses we had even in the BSC tourney.

Griz have nothing to lose but hope they are on edge and feeling the pressure of having a chance from the opening tip on. Go Griz!!

And another thing! You played A&M in Houston... road game for both of you... though 3/4 of your kids are from Texas, so it was like a home game.... A&M played Washington in Seattle and lost by 9... we only lost by 4 in Seattle and we were playing 8 Huskies at once, three of them had stripes on. So let's do the math! North Mexico beats A&M by 3... A&M loses by 9 to UW... the Griz only lose by 4 to UW... so in my book... WE'RE TWO POINTS BETTER THAN YOU! My accountant once told me before I filed for bankruptcy... The NUMBERS never lie! We also beat NAU by 38 points to your 39... even tho it took us two games... so you better bring your A game Lobo Lips!

haha are you serious, you tried that "well they barley beat so and so and we did this to so and so, so really were better" bull? YOU STILL LOST!!!!
I dont care if we beat a&m by 1/2 a point in their practice gym, and you lost to UW on their coffee table, UW beat you guys and you would never hang with A&m. Guess what? We beat A&m, and you LOST to UW, get over it. those two games mean nothing for UNM and UMs game tomorrow.

Id take a last second lost to a MWC NCAA tournament team any day over a "LORD please answer our prayers" Big Sky win. Really? your comparing a Big Sky Prayer answered win to a last second MWC loss? :thumb:

haha, well I guess if thats all you have to be happy for, knock your boots off, just make sure you take the cow crap patties off of them first

Big Sky compared to the MWC

UNM is that good, Griz will need to play their best game of the season and be near-perfect.... and that might not even get the job done.

Best of luck to both teams, and Go Griz

Is it Thursday yet??? It's getting SPICY in here! I haven't heard the University of North Mexico one since the Iowa fans were mad at us for hiring Alford!

The game will be played tomorrow night and to my knowledge neither team is ahead, neither has won or lost, and BYU, WA, OR, TEX AM, etc, etc, aren't in it. UNM has never made it to the 16 and neither have we and none of the players in the game have ever played in NCAA's before.

Let's see what happens tomorrow night!

You ever been to Iowa? You did Alford a favor! He should be paying you!! Good Lord, you'd think all you Alien-spawn down there in Enchanted Land would have a little thicker Martian skins... Stop and think about this you Lobo Lips... WHAT IF WE DO BEAT YOU?! It's gotta be buggin'ya just little. All those two and three points dominating wins down the stretch... crappy freethrow percentage, streaky 3-point shooting, weak-assed conference, can't even win your own league tournament, "OMG Have we peaked to early"! Hey, we have a saying up here in Montana. We call it the 3 S's when it comes to wolves... Shoot, Shovel and Shut up. So don't piss us off up here Roswell!
On top of all that... We're just playin' with ya. Congrats on a great season and more to come. We only hope to have UNM's success in the next couple of years. Good luck tomorrow night, but not tooo much!!
