To be honest, it doesn't matter either way, because the FCS is a total non-factor at the national level.

Case in point: In the Seattle Times today, the "story" covering the FCS title game is 3 very short paragraphs on the bottom of page ten of the sports section. On the same page is an article on halibut fisheries, which is at least 25 times longer. A story about someone finishing 5th in some speed skating race (no, I'm not shitting you) is twice as in depth.

I think that pretty much sums up the world in which we play, boys.

Well, all that explains is that the Seattle Times, and their readers have little or no interest in the FCS, and why would they, the two FCS teams near them to report on are in Portland and Cheney, they have Seahawks the University of Washington and Washington State, to consume the football sport oxygen.

However, the less that a million people in Montana, are interested in the FCS and the Griz because that is what they got, and for most that is good enough.

Disparity is bad for any league. The NFL and NBA have salary caps in part to promote parity. Top draft choices are given to the bottom teams in an attempt to promote parity also. If having one team dominate all the time is a good thing then you know they would do everything that they could to have it at the pro level. And if you think having NDSU as the perennial champs gives additional publicity to the FCS then I think you are fooling yourself. They get a bit of extra mention as a team that is sub FBS and wins a lot but how that mention helps the Griz is beyond me. It doesn't do one bit of good for FCS as a whole. The only thing that would help the FCS is more television exposure throughout the season.

Since we're so immersed in it, especially those within Montana, I think we just fail to grasp how insignificant the fcs is elsewhere.
No more insignificant than the FBS is to me and elsewhere

Someone just had a poll on this sublect (SI, NCAA, ESPN, STATS or someone else) about Alabama.

The consensus was: Yes.

You either love them or hate them. But its good for the NCAA.

As others have correctly noted, it honestly doesn't make any difference to the FCS if UNDSU wins 15 in a row. The FCS will be the same afterthought no matter what. I know some people really like the FCS more than the FBS, but they are the minority by far. ESPN couldn't wait to kick it over to a CBB game and invite people to watch the trophy presentation on ESPN3. It reminded me of the ending of a bowling or billiards broadcast. Today, very few people outside of FCS circles even know the T-Buffs have a team.

I am sure fans of Montana would be just amped to go play in the Go Daddy bowl.

Yeah, probably. I love bowl season. I'm surprised T-Buff fans aren't more vocal about moving to FBS, given their apparent need for attention. You aren't going to get it at the FCS level, that's for sure.

Well I would have frustrations with the FCS championship too if I watched my team go to that game and lose an unprecedented 5 times.

Maybe some reading comp? I'm a fan of the FCS playoffs, and the Griz having close to 30 years of overall success at this level is rad. But, sometimes, being an FCS fan starts to feel like being a Jimbob Baker fan. What? You don't know you Jimbob Baker is? Yup.

My wife is looking at getting another masters degree through UM. Through looking at the school, I read about some of the budget issues facing UM. Faculty cuts. Declining enrollment. These aren't trends for FBS success. Fuck man, the Griz need to focus on beating the Weber States of this world before fans like you can dream of watching them play in a no name bowl game.

Will know soon I think. Will be a change for sure. Definately not opposed to moving to Missoula for 2 years. Love that city.

I think the Bison get decent attention. Carson Wentz was on the Dan Patrick show this morning.

I think solid rivalries bring attention to college football. The Brawl of the Wild gets the entire attention of Montanans all over the country. NDSU vs UND could possibly turn into something like that, years down the line. Idaho vs Idaho St years down...USD vs SDSU. They may not capture the country but they do get more attention. The FCS should focus hard on that. I think it would a wonderful thing for the Big Sky if Idaho comes back. Fans don't care about D1 or D2 as much as they do about winning.
