I always get a kick out of the hoards of Nebraska fans who still live in the past glory of the Cornhusker football program. So many of them believe that they are just a recruiting class or two, or a new head coach away from the dominant program they were 30 years ago. Of course, most of us know that the chances of this are slim and none.

But, are we, as Montana fans, in the same boat???

Comments....

You know what is funny about this?

Yes….Griz fans are delusional and living in the past.

But what is more delusional …..is the fact that you would even equate yourself to the “Nebraska of the FCS”.

Nebraska won 3 national championships in 4 years, and were undefeated in all three of those seasons.

The Griz were a good program. Historically dominate on a Nebraska level…. No…not even close.

No back to back National championships. No undefeated seasons. I mean is there even one Griz team that would ever be a top 10 FCS team of all time? Really don’t think so…..

So, what temperature is it in ND when you all kick on the heat? 60 degrees? I bet it's a nice 75 degrees in the Heated Hillbilly Dome when it's 10 outside?

I’d argue the 1996 team would even be damn close even though they didn’t win hr title. They were 15-0 going into the title game including a complete thrashing of a PAC 10 program. They just happened to face FCS’s best all time team in the title game, back when the fcs still had 35 or 40 legit programs, unlike the last ten years when there’s been maybe a dozen if you really stretch.

So true. Why we couldn’t shut down two eventual Heisman finalists including a 6x pro bowler is beyond me. Best FCS team ever, and second place is two pages later.

LMFAO….Chad Pennington didn’t even take a snap in that game.

You really know your stuff

Pennington was red shirting that year but I'm sure Randy Moss was the 6x pro bowler he was talking about. Eric Kresser transfered in from Florida. He was an NFL QB but not a pro bowler.

Nobody "equated" anything. The point went totally over your head. If you think that participating in 5 National Championship games in a 15-year span, meaning we played in an NC game every third season for 15 years isn't being a DOMINANT football program, you are gorging yourself with pork rinds and fat-back.

My point is Nebraska was unequivocally the most elite and dominate FBS program at one point….it wasn’t even close. 3 undefeated seasons in 4 years.

Montana has never been a dominate FCS program. They’ve never even had a season , not one (other than last year 2 game season), in school history where they won every game they played. Sorry but dominance to me that requires sustained multiple successive, or close to successive seasons, of being THE best program in your division. It certainly doesn’t mean routinely choking on the main stage.

They’ve been really really good, but they have never been on the level or had runs similar to Georgia Southern in the 1980’s, Youngstown State in the 1990’s, App State in the 2000’s, or NDSU in the 2010’s.

Yes I knew he was referring to Randy Moss.

I was more so pointing out that Chad Pennington never took a snap in that game and nothing to do with Montana losing that game as he eluded to.

Pennington started in 95, griz beat him then.

Seven title appearances in 15 years and two maybe three of the top ten fcs teams of all time. I’d take that and call it dominant.

And yes, 1996 Marshall was the best fcs team in history and second best is the waste size of the average bizzzzzzun fan away. In fact, you could take all star teams of the best bizzzzzun teams and that Marshall team would put up 56 on em.

No, it was Eric Kresser throwing to Moss. Kresser spent several years as a back-up QB with the Bengals. NEXT!

You're not the sharpest knife in the drawer, huh? Who said that Montana was THE MOST DOMINANT FCS program? Huh? Huh? Wanna show me that quote? Make like a hockey player and get the puck outta here! You're a joke.

You guys asked "Is Montana the Nebraska of the FCS?" and then spent two pages of messages arguing about stuff from the mid-90s.

I think you've answered the question.

You might wanna initiate a post on your UNC athletic board, where you can start the thread, then answer it under multiple screen names. A suggested topic might be "Negating Cow Patty Stink During BB Games"

  who is Chad Pennington? We couldn’t shut down TWO (2) eventual Heisman finalists. Lost in 1996, but won in 1995. Now, I’m not sure if you know this, but eventual Heisman finalists played in both of those games (psst, not for the Griz).

To be fair to the Bizon troll, he didn’t say “dominant” repeatedly. He said “dominate” in place of “dominant”, you know, like someone who went to school in parts unknown?

The 2013 Bison had arguably the greatest FCS defense of all time. Marshall never faced a defense like that and the NDSU offense would have limited Moss’s time on the field.

What if I did that on purpose in order to get a response from you?

Na you are covering your tracks. Clearly you were referring to the 1996 game.

Look it’s all irrelevant. The Griz have never been a dominant FCS program like Nebraska was. It was a stupid comparison.

But were they dominate?

What if I was an astronaut posting while driving a lunar rover through the Sea of Tranquility? Equally possible.
