Is Haslam waiting too long?

He's waiting too long. Great candidates are thinking about bolting. Recruits are getting spooked. This is stupid.

I would rather get the right guy and lose a few recruits than get in a hurry and get the wrong guy. I would also assume that there is not a standout candidate or the deal would be done. Also, the Griz season has been done for 3 days and some coaches are actually still coaching.

And who is the right guy?

Or some candidates have other irons in the fire, or have already been spooked and withdrawn due to leaks. I assume that asst coaches are looking for other jobs too.

Strange how that all works, ain't it?

Coaching hires are a tricky business. Overly cautious and slow processes guarantee you will lose some of the best candidates because many schools are looking. We have lost one great candidate and are about to lose two others. Wait long enough and we will have Ty. Maybe that is the plan. If it was ALWAYS the plan, then they should have announced it right away and saved money and solidified recruits. That they have drug the process out, means that their first choice was not Ty. Leaking the visit to Baldwin scared him off. This is quickly becoming a shit show.

Some of you guys crack me up! Just chill a little and I would bet that you have the decision here very soon. I see this as a vital hire for the program for many years to come and I don't think Mr. Haslam is ignorant to that fact! I am excited to see who's gonna get the job as much or more than anyone but there's not always a clear cut way to do things, it depends on the candidates and their situations, not just ours.

Leaks scared off Baldwin, delay lost the Wisconsin guy, two more are ready to pull out. Maybe there is too much chillin here?

There is a point where judicious becomes untimely and slow. Much longer on a decision and recruiting will be negatively affected and current players who are making decisions to stay or not, may lean towards leaving.

It only matters whom Kent sees as the right guy, but I wouldn't mind seeing the likes of Stitt or Wristen being hired.

Baldwin was never really an option and Ty is definitely not the first choice.

Actually a FBS job lost the Wisconsin guy...and if the 2 ready to withdraw are BP and BH, I am OK with that.

Bobby Hauck is not as young as he was in 2009, when he left this same office and Pflugrad moved in. Neither is Bob Stitt, though Stitt, Hauck and Brent Pease – it feels like one of those will be the next coach, and perhaps by Thursday – are all younger than both me and Delaney.

Perhaps...

I thought that until I saw some "info" from Baldwin. I totally agree on the latter. I think Baldwin would have been stupid to come here for his sake, but for whatever reason, he appeared genuinely interested.

Because we didn't jump on him. And I'm not saying he should have been jumped at, but he went elsewhere because someone else did.

I don't think he was genuinely interested, but I do think he determined that not to at least inquire would be a mistake.

If KH was that sold on him, he probably would have jumped...but guessing that was not quite the case. Also, KH was not going to hire until the Griz season was over.

Wow, more than I actually expected. Half-committal anyway.

I agree with whoever said chill out. If candidates bolt, this was not their first choice. It is still very early in the annual coaching carousel.

I think enough of the University of Montana's standing as an attractive posting that I'm willing to wait for the process to work itself out.

Whoever the coach ends up being, we really won't know how good a hire it is for at least 12 months anyway.
