Is a big RB already on the roster, just not at RB?

I would put Nyguen/Calhoun only below the top 3. Newell is an awesome kid, a gutsy, hard-working leader, a guy you want in your foxhole. I love him. But in no way is he more skilled, nor is Brekke, than Nyguen and Calhoun.

Saraceni? Totally can't make that comparison. He goes against Frontier defensive lines, and I cover the Frontier for a living, and this season, the defenses, with the exception of Western, were the worst I have ever seen in nearly 15 years of covering Frontier football. There wasn't one other team in the conference besides Western which had what I would even consider a decent defense this season. It was that bad. Yes, Saraceni is very talented, but how he would he have fared against NDSU's defense? The Griz' defense? UND's run defense? I'm guessing he wouldn't have come close to rushing for 1,600 yards.

I think Calhoun is the most skilled and could end up being the best of the 4 mentioned, but Newell was the best player of those 4 last year. I agree that it is very difficult to make the comparison on Saraceni, but he was flat out dominant and is a guy that I think could compete at the BSC level.

I expect Calhoun could become one of our most improved players next year. I like the thought of him improving his pass catching and blocking and becoming more of a 3 down back. Very impressive freshman year. Hopefully, he becomes one of those guys who becomes dominant and becomes a difference making play maker for 3 years (ala Reynolds, Hilliard, Yo)
Newell was the best because his QB was a threat to run.
I totally agree. Not going to be the same next season with only one returning O-lineman and no Prukop back their to take all the attention. Newell wouldn't have rushed for 500 yards behind Montana's O-line.

I know this kid wants to come (back) to Montana. He's already applied for admission but I'm thinking he'll go wherever he can play. He's only played two years of high school football so I'm sure he hasn't gotten a lot of looks. He'll most likely add 10-15lbs. Might not be FCS caliber but definitely should play somewhere.

5'9" and 205 lbs? And runs (allegedly) a 4.42 40?

I think Holden is an excellent choice, was one of the premier running backs in Montana in High School. Big Tough! and quick. Would be a no brainer

I watched Nolan, Larry, and Holden all play multiple games here in Rimrockville. Nolan is the quicker back of the bunch. He's also hands down much faster on the top end. I think Holden is a tremendous athlete for the Griz to have on the roster. I question his lateral quickness for the r.b. position in the BSC. All being said, I think he'll be a tremendous player on the "D" at the linebacker position. He kind of reminds me of the "Ryan" kid who played on "D' a while back... :egriz:

Current college rosters:

N Saraceni...5'10", 195
J Nguyen......5'7", 180

HS 100 meter times (could only find Soph times for Nguyen, so compared them to Soph Saraceni)

Saraceni:

2011 Outdoor Season - 10th Grade
100 Meters
11.22a 1.2 V P May 27 AA State
11.59a -2.9 V F May 27 AA State

Nguyen:

2011 Outdoor Season - 10th Grade
100 Meters
12.94c V F Mar 24 Bellevue @ Mount Si
13.20a V F Apr 14 Juanita @ Bellevue Hig...
13.32a V F Apr 21 Bellevue @ Mercer Isla...

=======================================================================================

Saraceni is bigger, and A LOT faster.

It should be noted that as a SR, Saraceni was the fastest kid in the state, winning state with runs of 10.74 in the prelims and 10.71 in the finals!

One day we will stop talking about a "BIG BACK" who is 6 foot something and actually underweight for the height that runs an average 4.5 something that is visible to the defense across the LOS because he's not much shorter than the interior linemen. This formula is actually played out to me. How about a smaller back that actually runs 4.4 or better, has agility, can hide behind his blockers, shoot the gaps and then explode out past them at the drop of a dime that has great hands and can catch out the backfield and is great in open space at evading the first defender and the second??? Now the Nyugen is not the most blessed at vision, or agility, but the qualities I mentioned having in a back would work great in our O. Big backs...big slow backs, yeah we need one to be the other half of Thunder/Lightning combo, but size is overrated to me. What matters is play making ability and getting the ball upfield.

Ah yes. It's not the size of the cock in the fight rather the amount of fight in the cock.

At least that's what she said.
