Interstate team, I'm worried

MSU beat UM every which way and in all phases. And while everyone can take various things from the game, at least I am not taking too much and not going to draw huge conclusions about the teams.

MSU was fully prepared, got a gift and some luck in the first few minutes, and then stuck it to UM and never let UM back in the game. I assume this was MSU's best game of the season by far. I suppose UM's might have been the prior week against Weber.

Nevertheless, UM had some chances to get back in the game. Scored twice in 2d quarter. Could have had another one had a long pass been a bit less long or to another receiver. UM D played better in 3d quarter. O couldn't get going. MSU hit a couple early passes, including the nice early throw and catch down the left sideline. Later in the game, the qb couldn't hit a receiver. UM didn't played the first TD end around well, but had a guy in position in the backfield to disrupt the play. Important play. Cats won it.

While UM wasn't playing well, and MSU was helping to cause UM from playing well, UM was not completely out of it until they couldn't score, and stop MSU a time or two more, in the 3d quarter. Then it was over.

MSU's o-line dominated in the first half. MSU's backs were very good and deep. Many times UM couldn't finish tackles, when running backs pulled a leg out of a possible tackle. To me, that showed not good enough tackling by the Griz, and strong legs and fight of the Cats. The Cats were getting 5 or 6 yards consistently on first down.

Sneed is clearly hurting and not mobile. Early in the season, he would have avoided half of the sacks, and gained yardage. Did he even run intentionally once? Not having him healthy and not having Akem, hurts what was once a very strong offense. After UM went down, they had to throw more and didn't run much, and the Cats came after Sneed.

I always thought the Cats were good, but they were/are better than I thought, even assuming they had their best game. The running backs are very good, and deep. Impressive. Nevertheless, I assume UM could and should have been better prepared to slow the run down.

5th and 6th seeds. Pretty impressive, especially given where the teams were a few years ago.

I hope the Griz can recover and get back on track. Good thing they don't have to play this Saturday. Getting more guys healthier would help too.

What's the prognosis on TA? In looking at stats, and Sterk stats, I saw TA's name a number of times. I knew he had started really show early on, and played various positions, but he also got pretty good defensive stats along the way.

Agreed. D came out and got two quick stops of MSU's offense (FINALLY!) in the 3rd quarter, and the offense promptly shit the bed both times. That was a backbreaker.

they took right up the gut, looked like guard/tackle or center/guard gap. it was essentially the same play on most first downs. but they had a lot of first downs to work with

Here's what to expect next week kiddos.

The Cats will make every effort to make this game an ugly, sloppy slugfest. We will make every effort to take the natural rhythm and style away from you and avoid the lighting flashes of productivity that you guys routinely pull off. The Cats will want the announcers to comment about all the penalties from both teams and eventually say something to the effect of "just let the kids play". Hopefully they'll also comment well into the second half how far below the averages the grizz O is sitting (just like at Davis last night).

This style favors the Cats and gives us the best chance at a win. We will bring the game down to our level and then beat you with experience.

I expect the kitties will struggle to get a first down.

One of the worst pre game predictions!

I agree with you quality of opponents comment, but I think the same can be said of the griz run D, they have not played the top 2 run offense in the league yet.

The advantage MSU has is that their run game is very unorthodox, making it difficult to game plan for. Like the triple option, which teams don't see often a team has to adjust their schemes from the normal to defend them. Unlike the triple option there is no real book written on how to defend it, so each defensive coordinator will develop a game plan based on what he sees on film and develop schemes that he may have never used before.

According to conference only stats, Griz have played #2, #3, #5 & #6 in terms of run offenses in the BSC. ‘Scats are #1 and CP is #4. When it’s all said and done, the ONLY top 6 team in rushing we won’t have played is CP. We just held a team that averaged 241 to 69.

But I agree with the “unorthodox” comment...

as to the other part your comment, while you held WSU to 69 they were missing their top 2 receivers and their top RB was limited. Why does that matter? WSU runs a typical run offense that is dependent on play action and RPO, when WSU got behind due to 2 longsnapper mistakes and combined with a ineffective pass game due to the above injuries, it changes the whole complexion of their run game. Add in one mistake by their DB and they were behind enough that they need to go pass heavy in the second half, diminishing their run game further.

I think you are trying to compare apples to green beans, but maybe that is just me :thumb:

Bobcat “if only” comments. A tale as old as time.
I can’t wait to see the new flat-roofed Hall of Early Exits and If Onlys you guys have planned.

Instead it was a convoy of tears back to Missoula. I-90 all wet!!

I really don't think this game will be very close, unless we have a bunch of turnovers. The Cats, like Weber, play to our strength - stopping the run. Plus, the Griz will be more motivated and will be more physical. The Cats have only beaten one team with a winning record and that stat won't change a week from now.

NOT!

Most Griz fans were going home to order their playoff tickets and get prepared for Thanksgiving and a nice playoff run, just like Cat fans. Does your draw get you a quicker trip to Fargo?

I won't lie, not going to be an easy game. I thought Weber was the most physical team in the conference. Not today!
If the game was in WA Griz, I feel like we would win fairly easily. Cats play very, very tough at home. It will be a dog fight for sure, after what happened last year. Griz are going to have to play very physical, cats have a great defense for sure.

Woke up the this morning feeling a little fuzzy headed, did my calculations like I normally do before determining an outcome (it has been a pretty fool proof formula and has worked on almost every college level for me for some reason it does not work at the pro level) and this is not going to be even close to a fair fight. I personally feel sorry for some of the good Montana kids on the Cats team. Hopefully this game will get Choak (always corrects to Chock for some reason) fired.

It wasn't even close. However, you picked the wrong team! Are you still feeling sorry for the good Montana kids that played four years for the Cats and never lost to the Griz?

Player, you didn't know that was a joke? Do you not think if the score was reversed, there would be pages of comments mocking the predictions that were made. Get over it son. Just poking some fun. Good luck in the playoffs!

Didn’t look like a joke to me. If score was reversed, there wouldn’t be any posts from me mocking predictions.

I wouldn't expect you to post any mocking predictions. Your comments are always very balanced and reasonable. You are the exception on here.

With all due respect, it had been until SAT. The Bobcats were the only team to have huge success running the ball against MT

Earlier in the thread the argument was made that um had not played any good running teams, which artificially pads the stats. so.... it looks like that argument was born out to be true

In order to keep the high run d numbers Azgriz even omitted the WSU game :thumb:

:? :? :? Whatchu talkin' 'bout, Willis? We played #1, #3, #4, #5, #6, #7 & #8 running teams in the conference. The only one in the top 8 we didn't play was Cal Poly. Nobody came CLOSE to what MSU was able to do on Saturday. I didn't "pad" anything.

This thread tells the world everything it needs to know about Bigsky33. My God, can you imagine being stone cold sober on a Monday afternoon and logging into a rival's board and going post by post and laughing at the predictions from before the game?

You must lead a vacuous life with your entire self worth wrapped into a single annual college football game. Did you even graduate from msu?

I was embarrassed about some of the idiot Griz fans posting after the game. I just feel sorry for you.

If you happened to watch any Griz games or bothered to review any stats, you would know that prior to the Brawl the Griz were the best in the conference against the run. I was absolutely wrong about the Griz being more motivated. They clearly were not and they played flat. I said in another post that if the Cat's played well and the Griz played poorly, the Cat's would win. That's what happened. The Cat's played their best game of the year, the Griz played there worst game and the results showed it. It will be interesting to see how each team responds in the playoffs.
