Interesting Write up on NDSU Beating Griz Offense

After watching the Bison smother the Spiders last night and beat others to a pulp in the f---ing fargo dome we did not look any worse even though we all think we looked like hell. That Bison machine could whip many big schools as they keep showing very little weakness. Kicker.

Montana won't have a chance until we get some five year (big heavy beef) kids that can be coached to perfection.
We will continue to be a good team but to be great we need the aformentioned along with a good QB etc.

Coach Stitt has said his offense can beat any defense.
As many times that we've heard that, if you watched the CPSLO, Liberty, Weber, PSU, ISU or NDSU playoff games, you might not be convinced.

Kem, the point I was trying to make, that you seemed to have missed was, we have only seen the bare bones of the Stitt offense this year.

I didn't miss anything; I just ignored your speculation.

Why do you think we may have only seen the bare bones of his offense? I would think that we would have seen most of it.

I think that because, IMO we are missing some very key parts of the wheel; obviously everything everyone has said about the OL, a back capable of running up the middle, and mostly a MOBILE QB who can throw. How many times did we see a designed rollout to extend the D and give the WR more options to get open? How many WR routes would that open up? How many fly sweeps did we see? With a QB that at least is a threat to run, how many mis-directions could come off the fly sweep? Simis showed the potential of the zone read run and when he was "on", tied the TD per game record. He was the third QB of the season. How much of the play book do you think he had open? There have been seasons at CSM when they had a 1000 yrd rusher. I can't say if that was a cause or an effect, but I think it would also add to the depth of play calls. We have only seen one season that was seriously hampered by QB injuries and a lack of OL experience. That's a few of the reasons I think this thing is just getting started.

Perhaps. However, according to Stitt, the offense doesn't need a mobile runner/QB. It needs a smart QB who can make good and quick decisions and get the ball to the right person. We had terrific receivers. Nguyen had 855 yards--not 1,000 but not too far off. Even if you think Nguyen couldn't run up the middle, Calhoun could. Stitt also says that the fly sweep is normally not a big part of the offense. I think almost all of the play book was open, but I agree that better personnel and better execution would make more of the plays work. Thanks for the specific response. I was curious as to what you were thinking.

Key word there is NEED a mobile QB. He proved this year he doesn't NEED that QB. My point is when we HAVE that QB more of the playbook will be available. I see no other reason for him to be going after the type of player like Jensen if he doesn't want that. And, yes the fly sweep is not a major factor but if there are more possibility for options from it I think it will be more involved which means, more of the playbook. Yes, we had outstanding WRs. Imagine the route options they would have beed able to exploit if Brady could extend plays by rolling out, scrambling, etc. Many people who are much smarter than I am have said Stitt is an offensive genius. I think many on this board are seriously underestimating his ability.

I didn't miss anything; I just ignored your speculation and nothing Stitt could do will ever make me happy because I'm pissed they dared go outside the Griz family to hire a coach.

FIFY

It amazes me how many people don't give any acknowledgement that this was year one of a new coach and a new system, and usually things improve in year two. That is the case for each of our last three head coaches...
