Interesting Stat

The announcers mentioned someting interesting as I watched the game last night... In the Griz's last 3 trips to the NCAA Tourney, they have never finished higher than 3rd in the league standings. Something like 3rd, 5th, and 6th..

After watching the game last night, I gotta think this team is going to finish very strong. Their last 3 games were impressive, even in last nights loss (other than the rebounding stats), so I personally look forward to this team getting better and better. Especially the guards!!!

Dont give up Griz Fans.

I don't believe thats true. In 2003-2004, we won the conference, and made the NCAA tournament. We also went in 2004-2005, when I believe we won the conference as well.

Winning the conference tournament (which is required to make the NCAA tournament) and winning the regular season championship are two different things.

I understand that. in 2003-2004, the Lady Griz were 14-0 in conference, winning both the regular season and conference tournament. In 2004-2005, they went 13-1 in conference, again winning both the regular season and conference tournament.

Why would you think he's talking about the LG? Especially when A) Nowhere are the LG specified. And B) He said "last night's loss". Didn't the LG win last night?

I usually always go to the BSC tourney and I can't remember it being in Missoula since about 99 or so?

Where is GB1 when you need him?

No idea why I thought about them instead of the men. Sudzilla, please disregard what I said earlier.

He's on a sabbatical.

While I enjoy your enthusiasm, this years team is loaded and is just mediocre. Unacceptable, really. Good teams find ways to win, not lose. Whats our record in games decided by seven points or less? (too busy, and lazy, to look)

:twocents:

Shoot. I can't remember the last time Montana actually won the regular season conference title and hosted the BSC tourney.

In 2002, the tourney was in Bozeman. That was Dan Trammel's monster dunk to beat MSU in the semi's. They beat EWU and drew Oregon in the first round. Montana finished 4th in conference at 7-7.

In 2005, the tourney was in Portland. PSU was upset by Weber and Montana beat WSU. They drew Washington in the first round. Montana finished 3rd at 9-5. UM also beat MSU in the semi's in that tourney.

In 2006, the tourney was in Flagstaff. UM held off EWU in OT, and then beat NAU in the championship. That EWU game was crazy...Stuckey's shot at the end of regulation almost rolled in. Montana finished 2nd in conference at 10-4. They upset Nevada in the tourney as most of us recall.

Ok. So in 2000, Montana actually won the conference and hosted the tourney. But they lost to CS Northridge in the quarters.

In 1991 & 1992 they also hosted the tourney. In 1991, they won the tourney and played UNLV. In 1992, they lost to Nevada in the semi's.

They also hosted the tourney in 1978, losing to Weber in the championship.

I recall the 2000 tourney and what a bummer it was they lost their first game. My friend and I had actually got courtside seats for the whole tourney expecting the griz to be there at the end. However, we had great seats for NAU's full court 3-pointer right before half. That was a great shot. I also recall how piss-poor Northridge acted after they lost. Both coach and team had zero class, wouldn't even come out of the locker room for the trophy presentation.

Wrong, in 92 they were 26-4, won the league and tournament, played in Missoula, but were seeded 12th. They beat UNR in the finals. They faced a # 4 seeded Florida State team that won the ACC tournament. They had Sam Cassell, Charlie Ward, Bob Sura, Anthony Dobards (all NBA players) and barely lost in the first round.

They were the only teams that won the league and tournament two consecutive years. Maybe the best Griz hoop teams ever. Although it's hard to beat the team that went into the second round with Larry K.

They used to average over 7,000 fans per game during the early 90's. those were the days...and always won close games

I was there for that as well, the Ross Land three point clinic.

Yeah, that's the guy, I had forgot his name, he couldn't miss that game. We sat right next to him as he heaved that full court shot. What little people were there went nuts!
