Yes I can...if it is more important to that person that he is the HC and not an assistant..and that he is able to display a team that is exactly how he wants it to be displayed.....If he thinks to himself that making close to 200k is much more than enough for the time being to live in beautiful Missoula....If that perfect place has a better fan base and nicer facilities than many D1 programs.....all while planning on being at that school for 5-6 years before the Pac-12 or Mountain West offers him the head coaching position that hes always wanted all along.......

Ya I could see it being pretty freaking realistic.

Anymore stupid f***[*] questions???

I'm not referring specifically to Stitt, I'm asking spysk if he thinks we should be competing with FBS schools for HC candidates...

No I don't, however a coordinator could have been looked at, although should the UM be looking for a head coach from an obscure conference which School of Mines resides, I've always thought what UM has to offer could have done better.

Just my opinion.

You're entitled to your opinion of course, but who on the short list do you think should have been hired instead of Stitt?

I have no inside information, although, I am not of the allusion that there ever was a short list concerning the hiring of coach Stitt.

Hauck and Pease were diversions to appear that there was a search for the next head coach, they were never considered by Enstrom to be hired, and both exceeded coach Stitt credentials for the job.

Engstrom decision IMO was predicated on a applicant being squeaky clean, and coach Stitt filled the bill with fifteen years at Mines. Engstom was influence by a influential ex- congressman, and acting Regent,as well as a newspaper with an agenda about a rape case that should have been tried in court instead of public opinion of a swill driven unaccountable newspaper.

Incidentally, history provide us with the outcome of the overreaction of Engstrom and the Missoulian, with no apology to JJ or his family, other than a finanical settlement.

Also, with Engstrom overreaction, two other good men lives were turned to turmoil, being fired and still till today not told why, at least not to public scrutiny.

That my opinion, and when I question Engstom about the firings at a GAA tailgate party, he felt no explanation was needed.

I often wonder how many coaches did'nt even consider applying for the job, the way the university handled and protect the backs of the AD and Headcoach with their firings.

Concerning coach Stitt it is very obvious most postings about him are based on wrong un-informed and polarized views. I'm OK with folks not in love with him or his coaching but I wonder what far out planet some seem to obtain information about this guy.
I know Stitt and met him before he ever coached a day at Montana. I liked him then and I continue to like the guy today. Can he coach the Griz. I thought so then and I continue to think he can. However I will wait until then end of his three seasons and make my final judgement.
Kent Haslam was directed by president Engstrom to hire a clean head coach that would air the ball out and bring exciting football to Montana. That is what we have.

By the way, why isn't something in all of these magnificent facilities named after Don Read?
Several years ago, eGrizzers proposed renaming College Drive, Don Read Drive. It went nowhere, but you do have a point re: some other facility.
