Insert HC (Name) at Montana and win

Dont Kick 2 Bergen

Its the Big Sky Conference so you know any coach at Montana will have a winning record. Coach Kennedy will win at least 8 or 9 games this season. Then after a couple years we all can see what he does in the playoffs where it really matters. Then we will see if its an upgrade or the same old same old.

Stitt had a winning record every season at UM. It might be correct that anyone can have a winning record at Montana but Hauck was winning at nearly 78% which not insert any name can do.

Bob Stitt
After he lost to Northern Colorado of all teams with the players laughing and joking on the sideline he lost all my support, no thanks.

I'm a big fan of the offenses the Service Academies run so if I was completely wish listing a hire I'd want to hire Navy's current OC and old Mercer HC Drew Cronic, think it'd be awesome to run his modernized hybrid Wing T.

Please God no. I love the winged-T, and played in that system. It’s made for under equipped programs to compete. It’s the offensive version of the 3-3-5 though. Its novelty will wear off and it’s not built to handle everyone. It will not win you a championship at any level in this day and age. Fun to watch, sure. Does it meet the goals of this fanbase. No.

Navy has gone 21-5 since he became the offensive coordinator including Bowl wins over SEC Oklahoma and Big12 Cincinnati, 2-3 record vs Top 25 teams (Notre Dame the only team they've truly struggled against) and more then half the games had over 100 yards passing. This isn't your old school Paul Johnson Option Offense

Yeah they compete in the American which is where most of those wins came. The Oklahoma win was a bowl game against a 6-7 team. That Cincinnati win was a bowl game as well against a 7-6 team. Is there any power 4 team that runs it???? Georgia Tech was the last one to win run something similar. Coincidence? Tell me again how that would propel this program over the top?

The offense utilizes alot of concepts that the Dakota States and MSU use, in particular lots of overload schemes with the QB run + pulling linemen, sweeps, zone read runs etc. Also is on of the best schemes when to the threat of the PA Pass and counters keeping the Defense honest.

Which are all things you can do with a modern offense without beating your QB to a pulp. If you’re going to start recruiting athletes to play QB instead of QB’s great.

MSU moved away from the +1 game as a core of their offense when they had an adequate QB and voila they won a freaking national championship. Make no mistake the designed QB draws and run game are similar to what we have. Their run game in general is power based and designed to run over and through you, not to deceive you.

Now, we have the best QB we’ve had in 20 years and most likely the best RB in program history. Why eff that up for this year?

I mean NDSU has won how many NCs utilizing it as a core part of their offense? This is a wishful thinking not going to happen scenario in the first place from my end, but AhYat in that type of offense I think (especially if we got another McDowell type) would thrive with his overall atheltic ability. But again I understand it's not happening, these highlights show his offense isn't anything like what Service Academies have done in the past:

So NDSU runs a modified winged T now????? There is a huge difference between offensive schemes and nuanced run game concepts. A-Gap power is not a winged-t or offshoot theme. It’s a run game concept that can be utilized in a variety of offensive schemes with a variety of positions/pullers.

I do agree with you that having an athletic QB is exciting to watch and can lead to success. Even with the tumult around the program JJ was a hell of a fun player to watch. Clif was a lot of fun to watch. Finding true dual threat QBs is hard and finding enough quality ones to have a solid 2-3 deep is imperative and even harder. It’s why MSU brought in Chambers to complement Mellott and why NDSU always has guys that play a nuanced backup role early in their careers before they become the guy.

It's more pointing out that Navy's current offense utilizes alot of the same running concepts that the Dakota States and MSU have and currently uses. Yes they use lots of Option and Wing-T type plays but if you watch the highlights I linked (forgot to add them into my original post) they run just as much if not more what youd call "standard" running plays with the threat of the option providing window dressing, making the Defense hesitate etc. The most "Wing-T" about their offense seems to be how the linemen block and move dependant on the play and what the defense is doing.

And deception/window dressing as well as those concepts can be done out of a pro style system which has many other benefits including in the passing game schemes. That’s why the game has evolved to the RPO and will evolve again as defenses have adjusted.

The whole point of having any scheme is either fitting the personnel to your scheme or vice versa. This last year we actually did adjust and tailor the offense to the talent we had and it was one of the best offenses we’ve had in program history.

Ok but how many kids want to play in the wing t? At the high school level by where I grew up teams that still run the wing t are losing players to other high schools because they don’t like the scheme.

Pretty sure an offense like that would attract RBs and Linemen (Army had the #1 rated O-Line in 2024) for example, gives both a great chance to put tape together for a shot at the next level. Same for Dual Threat QBs and though to a lesser degree you could have WRs even be intrigued by it due to its big play capability. 1 off the top of my head is Ramses Bardon in 2009 from Cal Poly who was drafted by the Giants.

Yeah you’re probably right for certain lineman and running backs. The people I know who transferred high schools to avoid it were mostly wide receivers and quarterbacks. The high school they mostly transferred to had 2 QBs lead the state in passing and get D1 offers in a row.

The standard is to win the conference, beat the cats and win ship. Period.
