It looked like broken lower leg to me but that's pure speculation. It's one of the ugly parts of a great sport, f****ing major Injuries.

Any chance that Reese can petition for a sixth-year medical waiver? I've heard of sixth-year seniors before.

It's in the third game so he hasn't played 1/3-1/4 the season, he could be eligible..

But that boat has since sailed?

It's now Jensen/Sims time to shine

IF it is an ankle dislocation recovery depends on severity. Looking at the post photo it would appear that it is severe, likely involving ligament tears and likelihood of fractures of either tibia or fibula.

Very rare injury, think of it as a very severe and very painful full on sprain.

Prognosis for healing likely months, not including prolonged period of rehab.

My thoughts to him, hope it is not the end of career injury.

No, it's Jensen/Hill. Simis is no longer a QB.

Pretty sure umcheer2000 is wasted. Doesn't know what's going on and was posting in the griz sfu game day thread. Hahahaha

Sad day for Reese hope it isn't a lifetime of suffering. I really like Sunshine, down to earth and cool as a cucumber. He represents himself, team, and university well.
Thanks Reese for for your dedication hope you get a chance to play again if you desire.

Moderator here, taking some liberty on this and removing posts with photos of the injury at the requests of multiple posters, and out of sake of showing Reese Phillips some respect and wishing him the best.

Great Post! Just adding my thoughts and hopes for Reese in the future. Part of the game but still terrible luck for such a nice young man. Get well soon!

Word is a broken bone and ruptured ligaments. Thoughts and prayers with this kid. He has that "it" factor and I was excited to see what he was going to do this year. He was off to an incredible start. Damnit.

Anyone who thought just a "dislocated ankle", doesn't understand anatomy. Of course there was going to be more damage than a "dislocation" with foot at that angle. The anatomy of a lower leg is far more involved than a finger.

As one who agreed with the suggestion of others ... good idea. Those of us following along -- it was sickening and, having seen the images, that was enough. Actually, too much ... but you get my drift.

And Rainey...you don't break an ankle, there is no such bone

Oh brother...so, then, probably a broken tib/fib with ruptured syndesmosis.
Lost a great leader. That will be missed. I think Jensen has skill set to keep them going, but where will the leadership come?

It is a good question AZD, but truly there are numerous players on the team that could and will fill that leadership roll. The coaches now will have to address leadership with the team and individual players. Next man up has to be the mantra (no disrespect to Reese Phillips) Jensen will be fine and this is a gigantic opportunity for him to learn, grow and flourish. I have all the respect in the world for Reese Phillips. I wish that young man nothing but success. I have a feeling he will deal well with this piece of poo that life just threw his way. Best wishes for a quick recovery.
