Injuries piling up for NDSU

Could there be any possibility that NDSU playing 15 games per year is taking a toll on kids? I assume it helped them gain valuable experience tacking on almost a whole year of extra games to their schedule. I also remember when we used to ask the same - don't remember an answer.

Good point.

The s/c coach has been a valuable asset to the FB program. I'm more of a glass half full guy.....I'll assume all the extra games have been beneficial for the players.

Next man up!!!

A lot of guys got valuable playing time last year. There will be some growing pains but the O-Line will be fine.

Bison do not do anything fancy. Power north/south running game and play action pass.

The defense will be the strong link to start the season.

Man, that sounds suspiciously like the comments made by Bobscat fans last year when players started dropping like flies in the pre-season.

With 4 new starters on the O-line there will be growing pains. But it is not like the guys coming up the depth chart are true freshman. They have been with the program a few years and most got good playing time last year.

Injuries happen and the next guy on the depth chart moves up and needs to contribute. The only returning starter was originally a walk-on. The possible center to be played as a true freshman and has been a valuable back-up. The other 3 positions (both guard spots and RT) will be filled with guys that have had playing time. Will they make mistakes? Sure they will and I'm sure teams will try to exploit that esp during the first few games.....I would.

But having a good portion of the defense returning will only help the offense. The kicker and punter also return. That is why I'm excited for the UM/NDSU match-up this year and next. I want to see how the Bison defense will try to stop JJ. With all the LBers and 3/4 of the DBs returning, it will be fun to watch.

Well, given that OUR O-line is considered our weak point, what's the status of your D-line players?

Up until about a week ago, the DL was the biggest question mark. 3 starters are gone with 1 returning starting DE and a DT that saw significant playing time. There are 3 RFR that the coaches are excited about but they have not played one snap...any of them. IMO, that is the biggest question mark for the Bison....D-line. But it will help that all 3 LBers that startered the last 5 games are back and 3/4 of the secondary.

I'm sure the offense is going to struggle the first part of the season and defensive coaches will try to exploit that. But as the season progresses the offense and O-line in particular should get better. Wentz (QB) is he is anything like some on BV are saying (huge upside) then the offense should be fine. Top WR-TE-RB all return....which should help also.

I'm sure Iowa State (first game) and Montana will throw a lot of defensive formations and bring blitzes at the Bison offense to see how the young guys respond. If the Bison O-line struggles this year so will the whole team. The defense will be very good but if you are on the field a lot you get worn down. Offense needs to keep drives going.

Thanks much for your knowledgeable and centered analysis, Bison Fan in NW MN. Whatever the outcome, we are thankful to get you this year instead of last. Unlike MSU, we will show up.

Substitute LB for D-Line and you just described almost our exact situation...this may come down to a defensive battle! Still waiting for that numbnuts who predicted a 36 point victory to put his money where his mouth is.

its hard to point out the lost players for the bison and not acknowledge ours. they may be down, but i've seen quite a few 8-4 predictions for us. also if players keep dropping for n.d.s.u. a win over them may end up being no more meaningful than our win over app state. i'd prefer they're at full strength, but it looks like we've picked a great time to play them.

I'm sure this has been hashed out here numerous times but it is too bad NDSU doesn't play Montana/Montana State every year. Both Montana schools along with NDSU/SDSU should all be in the same conference... :thumb:

If the Big 5 FBS conferences ever break away and form their own league, I hope the NDSUs and Montanas are ready to move to whatever the next level of FBS football there is. Both schools would be very good at that level. Heck, look at Georgia Southern....they went into Florida and beat them.

yes we go over that a lot. i'd like a nine team league. the four dakotas, e.w.u., i.s.u, w.s.u. and both montanas.

You are on to something. The extra games have taken a toll on some. However, all the extra practice has given the young offensive and defensive lineman many valuable reps against the best. They certainly won't be inexperienced or in awe of the griz.

Who cares? You would think that the NDSU waterboys would beat the Seattle Seahawks by 20 points by all the shit that is spewed on this board.

Too bad the Dakotas are all on the wrong end of the states. They're 1000 miles from Missoula making rivalries and attending road games a challenge. You're really in the Midwest while we're west of the Divide. We used to have a great rivalry with Idaho, 240 miles away; now we're stuck with MSU and EWU, both a little over 200 miles away.

NDSU always rotates O Lineman, Billy Turner and Tyler Gimmestad were exceptions to that rule last 2-3 years. Guess what, NDSU always rotates D Lineman, its been a M.O around here.

Not 1 person in BisoNation is panicking. Not 1 person is doubting and Not 1 person is lacking confidence in yet another title run.

NDSU has dominated the fcs and will continue to until they are out of the fcs.

I've read the same kind of post from you on multiple threads tonight. Something tells me you're not going to have the best morning. Hydration and time, those are the keys. Don't buy into the myth that greasy food helps. I know, I know, it's hard to resist in the land of basketball-sized hearts filled with ricotta cheese, but stay strong. You'll be fine.

True story. Geography is stern, like the Russian Police, stern, but fair.
