Injuries..be careful coach

I listened to Tinkle on the pre and post game shows yesterday and
also the coaches show this week.
I thinks Tinks is convinced his "toughness practices" are the reason
why they are winning of late.
Running loose ball drills, taking charge drills and banging it around
is ok for the pre season.
BUT we are coming into the home stretch..and there is a fatigue
facture and this is not the time of the year for that!

If the coach is not careful someone is going to get hurt right when we need them for playoff crunch time...mark my words.

If an injury does happen...i might have to join the "Tinks is not Head coach material" threads myself.

On the other extreme of this, I have an example.

My SR year we had some bad breaks and suspensions, in turn only won 1 regular season game. Anyway, the week of districts we too did the "toughen up" the team drills too. Being we were a small team with the biggest guy being 6'1", it was something that paid off come Districts. We managed to take 2nd in District and lost out in the Semis at divisionals. To be honest, our players enjoyed the drills and how competitive the drills allowed for us to be.

I honestly am not for any coach, any level, and any sport to be scared to push players in fear of injuries. Injuries are part of every sport at anytime. Hell an athlete could get injured getting out of bed or taking a shower. There are two sides to this debate.

Also this experiment will benefit Tinkle in the future in knowing not to be afraid to try new things. It will be beneficial for next year, after all we only lose 2 players from this year. In reality he has a better understanding of how the majority of next years roster can respond to things like this. The only ones not tested for next year will be Stockton and Ward. I have no doubts Stockton is the type of player that is tough enough to handle this. By the sounds of it, Ward too works very hard. Honestly, it looks like Tinkle may have struck gold trying this. I also believe he talked with the team leaders about this before hand, they probably all agreed to this.

If a team is successful any given year, there is no reason to try things like this, why fix something that is not broken? On the other hand, if a team is struggling and has to try new things to get to higher levels, "why not give new things a try?" Why live in fear when what you are doing already is coming up a little short anyway?

Well maybe we are safe..with a hard game last night and a big game 24 hours away..Even Tinkle is not dumb enough to have a hard
rough and tumble practice the day before a game...or is he ?
lets hope not !!!

Isn't dumb enough? :naughty: What's the matter with you?

Well..I have not been down on Tinks all year but I was just
saying..A smart coach would be laying off and letting the team
"peak" like they do with track athletes.
Lets hope i am wrong..but what i heard on the radio ..I can see
a potential problem a mile away ..if we are not lucky.

lets hope we are lucky and no one gets hurt...well at least a
starter..football tight ends..they can probably take a hit though :tounge:

Correct me or not, just recently were we not complaining how teams were outrebounding us had no business outrebounding us? We were questioning their attitude and toughness. Tinkle does something to address that and still hearing it. Apparently the staff and team leaders agreed with that too. If any team has something a weakness that needs strengthened they have to work on things to improve. Unfortunately, toughness is a trait that needs to be built in little more "physical" way. I honestly feel Tink and players had more to gain than to lose in stepping it up in this aspect. :thumb:

It would be a shame if one of our studs broke his nose in practice the day before such a huge game.

I am convinced that Strait is the most consistent ever and would be interested to see if he could do it with a mask. Might be easier to spot in the post.

"Get the ball to the big fella in the mask." Sometimes we forget.

Nose you could deal with - finger, or foot would be another story!!!

I believe LK had a scrimmage the day before the UW tourney game 3 years ago, our starting center sprained his ankle, and he was unable to play the next day (except for the first 90 seconds). Thus, there's precedent for having tougher practices later in the season and before big games. I'm not saying the strategy is right or wrong, but it does occur.
