ineligible?

Someone on the UM board said that 2 starters will be ineligible after the semester ends (short of a miracle). Anyone know who?? I know Mansell has had problems staying eligible in the past, and also heard Kamaar was having problems. But just speculation on my part.

If they end up ineligeable they'll have to do what Derrick did last year...take wintersession classes to get their GPA back up and not participate in basketball during those 3 weeks. When they pass their Wintersession classes they can rejoin the team.

Booker is the one that is academically ineligible at this time. Will be taking the winter inter-session classes. Hopefully, he will pass and raise his GPA above the minimum level so that he can play some more this season.

Jean's pretty good about working with them so they take stuff that they'll be able to do well in so they can get back on the court. My guess is that he'll probably end up taking 2 wintersession classes but it might be only one if he only failed one course.

how could anyone be ineligible?

Everyone on the team played vs. Gonzaga on Sunday (and I mean EVERYONE)

They announced it on the news last night that Booker is ineligible. His ineligibility started Monday the 5th, and they said he'll miss 4 games (which is only two weeks, I thought he would have to sit out for the whole 3 weeks of intersession, anyone know the details on this?).

As long as his GPA is not at the level it should be, then he has to sit out. That means if he doesn't succeed in his classes during the inter-session, he will not play again this year. I sure hope he does pass his classes, so he can play again this year.

Let me clarify my question, why does he sit out 2 weeks vs. 3 weeks. It seems he would have to sit out for the whole 3 weeks of intersession because how will it help his g.p.a. until interession is over and his grades are posted.

If you look at the calender, the 3 week session ends Jan 23, 2004. So starting Jan 5, 2004 to Jan 23, 2004, that is 3 weeks of classes. Sat. and Sun. do not count. So during this 3 week period, there are only 4 games. The next game after those 4 is Jan 24, 2004 against the Cats, which is the only game that week. The grades should be posted Jan. 23, 2004.

So during the 3 weeks there are only 2 weeks with games that he will miss.

Now, the question is, Can he practice during that time. I am kind of certain he can not. So, in reality, if I am correct, he will miss 3 weeks. If he can practice than there will only be two weeks he will miss.

So, on Jan 23, 2004, we have to hope that the grades posted raises his GPA high enough so he can play on Jan. 24 and beyond.

i don't understand why was still eligible for the gonzaga game. he should have been ineligible when the grades were posted for the fall semester. when classes start would have nothing to do with his eligiblity. it seems to me that if you become eligible when the grades are posted the same would be true as to when you become ineligible.

Probably has to do with conference play only

No, I don't think that is the case at all. I think it has more to do with school being in session or not. If there wasn't an intersession, than I would think he would be able to play until the start of the next semester. But since there is an intersession and it started Jan. 5th, than his ineligibility would start Jan. 5th and continue until he gets his grades up to where they are supposed to be.

That is the only reason I can think of why his ineligibility started Jan. 5th and not at the end of the fall semester.

I'm pretty sure its just while school is in session. And he can't practice while he's ineligable (Derrick had to do it last year and he couldn't do anything with the team while he was ineligable). Which means I highly doubt Booker will actually play against MSU since he won't be eligable to practice until the day of the game.

I should add myself, that Booker may not even be able to play against MSU because the Grades may not even be posted on the last day of the intersession. If the Grades are posted late, then that will mean more missed games.

Even if Booker is eligeable to play against MSU, its highly doubtful he'll be ready to play. He can't practice with the team while he's ineligeable and we always have to bring our A game against MSU...especially in Bozeman. He won't have the preparation necessary to play in that game. So while he only officially has to miss 4 game...he'll probably miss 5.
