In State Montana High School Recruits 2014

To be clear, i wasnt suggesting that it was a violation. My comment was more along the lines of a sarcastic jab directed at a poster who contacted the msu compliance office last year because a booster asked a recruits dad (who also happened to be a long time friend) where the kid was going.
Yeah I know and that definately is not a violation. Someone will post a bylaw that it is, but me talking to a player who I've known for years probably is too. Like I said, if talking to a player and quoting him or his parents on what his plans are is a violation, ESPN and Rivals would not exist.

In some states that "rule" might be remotely enforceable, but in a state like Montana, where everyone is related and either a Griz or a 'sCat fan, it would make conversation over Thanksgiving dinners extremely difficult.

Actually I believe that was a bobcat booster talking Gunnar Brekke out of his verbal commit to UM. Violation ? Probably. Sleezy ? Absolutely. Poor Kid...

Yeah, it's just too bad that booster made the decision for Brekke. What a shame.

Lets not act like we don't have fans/boosters that do the same damn thing in in-state recruits. Besides, when has recruiting not been a dirty business?

Okay, I'm a Butte guy, so I'm undoubtedly biased, and Will Weyer looks like a good get for the Griz, but...

Dallas Cook set about 14 state records this season, in the process putting up video game numbers, even injecting himself into some conversations for national player of the year, and he can't even make first team Montana? Huh?!?

Yeah, I know, Weyer got the title, but look at what he had around him compared to Cook. It was basically Cook and one good and one great receiver and not a whole lot else vs. Weyer and his cast of thousands (and a great defense). You can't put Butte's failure to repeat on Cook--Butte's defense (or distinct lack thereof) did that while Cook gamely tried to keep the 'Dogs in every game by simply outscoring every opponent in outrageous boat races.

I know he's not in fashion here on eGriz (for something he didn't even do), but give the kid his due. The numbers he put up only come up once every forever (so far, at least).

I'm pretty sure you know what I meant. He somehow couldn't make first-team Montana QB, obviously. Putting him in at 'all-purpose' is a joke after the monster season he had as a QB.

What, exactly, does "All Purpose" even mean? Anyone?

Cook's performance will be measured by the offense of which he was a part of. He put up rediculous numbers, but coaches and media members see that a part of the Tony Franklin System.

Which in one way is fair, because while it looks great (the large passing totals), it doesn't mean his performances left all that great of a foot print on the mind of coaches and media. That system is easy to put up big numbers, seen it in person and as a coach, and some rail against it as being easy. Shouldn't take away anything for what he accomplished for as college coaches know there is little connection between all state ballots and talent.

I don't have a dog in this fight,,,but I do have to go along with crunchgriz on this one.....

Weyer and Cook are both deserving. I think you're reading too much into it if you see it as Weyer being 1st team over Cook because that isn't the case. Cook rushed for a lot of yardage too so that might be why they put the "all-purpose" label on him. I think the GFT got it right. Would love to see those Dillon kids in maroon and silver.

To say Dallas Cook deserved first team QB over Will Weyer because of stats is absurd! Cook was on a mediocre team fighting to keep his team in it,thus throwing a ton. If that's what you're looking for I'm sure Stafford and Romo are your two favorite NFL QBs and you must think that Jameis Winston surely didn't deserve the Heisman. In most games Weyer was pulled early in the second half, thus not padding his stats. He only threw four INTs all year. Cook had two games where he threw for four or more INTs. Butte's receivers should get a lot of the acclaim for Cook's accomplishments. Daum (please land him Griz) is amazing and as a whole the Butte receivers were the best in the state. I believe that Weyer will have a successful career for the Griz and Cook will never start a game at the FBS or FCS level at QB. I see him adding a couple lbs and being an athletic offensive lineman if he wants to.

Look at Cook's film folks. For the past 2 years. Most of his passes were short, and his receivers turned them into long gains. He had a couple of great receivers. Last year he had an all state line.

I'm not saying he is a bad QB, or even not a very good QB. But if you watch the film, he has had a lot of short passes turn into very big yardage. Look at Weyer's film. I would take him in a heart beat.

Hope they both do very well. Let's check back in on this conversation in about 4 years.

I agree with CrunchGriz - Cook is deserving of first team. But then, I don't care that much about what the Tribune says.

You're talking about Tom Stuber running into Gunnar Brekke's dad, whom he has known all his life, at the gas station who told Tom that Gunnar was rethinking his commitment. Some time goes by and during one of their phone calls to each other, Tom learns that Gunnar will instead be going to MSU like his parents did.

Thinking Tom acted in violation after reading Tom's post on BN, Everettegriz aka Grizinwashington or dickheadinwashington called the MSU compliance office. MSU conducted an investigation and found no violations had occurred.

Lesson for all:
If you're going to be a tattle tale, at least know what the fck it is you are talking about and be able to quote the fcking rule of which has been broken. If ya don't know all the facts, is it necessary to stick your nose in it?
