In State Montana High School Recruits 2014

His final choice was between Boise and MSU. Maybe he stays with Boise. Maybe he follows Petersen to UW. Maybe Bohl gets him to sign with Wyoming.

See what I'm doing ? Making a guess on his situation not stating a guess as fact. Like you did.

There was an article that stated that Petersen promised Dissly that he wasn't leaving BSU three days before he took the UW job. I could see him going MSU, yet that offer will be on the table till signing day, so I bet he takes his time.

...more speculation...

Peterson did not promise anything. The story is that Dissly asked him if there was any chance he would leave. He said no. He said he doesn’t see a need to leave Boise State. This was before the Washington job opened, and at the time Peterson had no intention of leaving. But coaching is a business, and opportunities do present themselves which are to difficult to pass up. Any kid going through the recruiting process needs to realize things like this will happen.

Maybe not promised, but strongly implied he had no intention of leaving. I'm not sure if he lied at all, but he was misleading... Regardless, I don't blame Coach Pete for any of this. He was coach at BSU at the time and has to do what is in BSU's best interests. I just think the way he handled that conversation will make it more difficult to recruit Dissly as he seems pretty upset about how that went down. Also, there is kind of an unwritten rule about recruiting commitments from your previous employer. Maybe, I'm wrong. Again, its all speculation on what has really happened with that and what will happen with Dissly. I think whoever gets that kid will get a great player. Underrated coming out of Montana.

Still watching for Colton Gavne from Livingston to appear on one of these lists. Big kid.

I have heard that Colton's family are big Bobcat fans. MSU ha been recruiting him hard.

His father and I are good friends and he has stated to me that Mick D has been watching his kid close. I will talk to him tonight and find out his sons intentions....

Be careful. According to at least one of the regulars on here, thats an ncaa violation.

If talking to players parents, coaches, and friends was a recruting violation, Rivals.com literally would not exist. The writers for those team sites, or "insiders" get their information first hand from players and also form the types of sources listed above. Maybe it is a violation since we are all "boosters" on here  I know recruting kids, trying to convince them to come to your school is a violation but asking a prospect about what their plans are and then posting it on a message board can't be a violation or recruting sites wouldn't exist.

I believe a booster talking to a recruits family is a violation. Be careful. Discretion is the better part of valor!

No. A "booster" which in the NCAA's eyes is basically anyone who has ever gone to a game, cannot be recruiting a kid to come to their school (although it literally happens every single day in every major program). But someone talking to a recruit about their plans and posting it on a message board is not a violation. If you think it is, than you also believe that rivals.com is some unknown underground website the NCAA doesn't know about. Go ahead and post some bylaw, it's not a violation. If it was, recruiting sites like rivals, scout, and ESPN would not exist.

We sound like such redneck rubes even discussing this

To be clear, i wasnt suggesting that it was a violation. My comment was more along the lines of a sarcastic jab directed at a poster who contacted the msu compliance office last year because a booster asked a recruits dad (who also happened to be a long time friend) where the kid was going.
