In State Montana High School Recruits 2014

I know people who graduated from MSU who are season ticket holders at Washington-Grizzly Stadium and who, for some reason, never even talk about MSU.

I went to MSU. Had this crazy idea to be a civil engineer. Lived with football players. My family has season tickets in Missoula. I'm a Griz till the day I die but respect both programs except during cat/Griz week.

Having an "In" at both schools, I can without hesitation confirm that both UM and MSU want Dallas Cook. The only thing hindering FCS offers is his academics, that is not to say that he doesn't have any...

Lets not act like Cook was out there throwing bombs all game...he was throwing little bubble screens, slants, pretty much everything in a 2-15 yard range, rarely ever throwing deep. Sure he would on occasion, but not often.

You've seen how many Dallas Cook games? I whole-heartedly disagree with Cook throwing bubble screens and slants all game. Because Cook dropped in the basket many pretty 30-40 yard strikes, in stride, to streaking recievers headed towad the goal line. I've seen every game over two years. He throws a very accurate deep route, and his Elite passing camp coaches praised him for such, nameing him #2 in the Elite camp...out of 20. FACT.

Sure the short passing game (bubble screens/quick slants) were part of the scheme. They had to be, because defenses were scared shitttless of Butte beating them deep with Cooks arm and sprinter speed (Dalton Daum) and size (Peter Granger) at the WR position. So much so, defenses would deploy 6 DBs, 1 MLB and 4 DL. Butte would put 2 recievers to each side of the formation, and defenses would cover that with 3 DBs to each side (for a total of 6). 2 DBs over each reciver--one in press, and one off the ball 5-10 yds--and a safety over the top on both sides taking away the deep route. The smart read was to have the inside WR run off the press coverage, and then bring the outside reciever in on a quick slant. It was open all game long. If Butte put 3 WRs to one side, obviously the bubble screen was the best option every time because the defense only had 2 DBs by the line of scrimmage. It was like taking candy from a baby.

The defense can only take away 1 thing. Either the deep ball or the short ball, they can't take away both. Defenses logically tried to take away the deep ball. Hence a lot of short to medium range passes by Butte. But they had plenty of medium to long range completions as well.

I'm glad we got Weyer though, he's great, and will be great at UM.

I hope Western or Tech get Cook.........can't think of a player I want at UM less than him. The only good part a out him coming to UM would be the slivers in his ass from riding the pine.

Shayne Cochran of Culbertson has given a verbal commitment to play football at the University of Montana in the fall.

The 6-foot-1, 210-pound Cochran helped Culbertson-Bainville to an 8-2 record last fall, earning first team Class C all-state honors at both running back and linebacker.

He rushed for 1,589 yards and 28 touchdowns last fall and finished with 2,346 all-purpose yards with 36 total touchdowns. On defense, he led the team with 85 tackles.

Cochran also earned first team all-state honors at running back and linebacker as a junior.

He is projected to play linebacker at Montana.

So that's 11 verbals now. :thumb: Are you getting this down payton?

My friend coaches at Wolf Point and a few others who live in Easter Montana seem to think the kid is a steal. He has the frame to get to 240 lbs. Cochran likely to be a 2 or 3 year starter at LB, from what I have heard from a few.

I have heard the same. Kind of a Hardy (Fairview tight end) type of frame. Heard he was the real deal.

Here are a few other Eastern Montana kids I have heard things on. I am not sure of their class though. Luke Gunderson from Glasgow 6'3" 265# Lineman and Devin Schwanz 6'4" 270# from Plentywood are both for REAL and the Cats are hard on him and Cats already got #1 lineman in MT Tucker Yates from Colstrip

Anyone know more about these kids? From what I hear, the GRIZ are not making as much of a presence in NE Montana as other schools are.

Didn't a kid from Culbertson just commit to the Griz? That's further east than Glasgow.
Who are the "other schools" with more presence in Eastern Montana?

Not talking about height, but the stocky farm kid type frame that can put on muscle weight and maintain athleticism.

I am a broncos fan. I am not in a good frame of mind. The only good part about the game is that I drank enough beer that I don't remember much of it.

Apparently, so did the Broncos…before (during?) the game.

Not sure if anybody saw it, but Dissly garnered Parade magazine 2nd team all-American honors. I was wondering, have any other Montanans achieved that lofty status?
