In case you are missing it.......

Rule 9-2-1d lists eight examples of violations, ranging from "Pointing the finger(s), hand(s), arm(s) or ball at an opponent" to "Going into the stands to interact with spectators, or bowing at the waist after a good play."

"Bowing at the waist after a good play" specifically cited as one violation under the rule...

Maybe a few rules counseling sessions and less pink uniform and shoe fitting sessions would do the Ducks well!!

So it's okay to bow after a bad or mediocre play?

This is the general rule:

"There shall be no unsportsmanlike conduct or any act that interferes with orderly game administration on the part of players, substitutes, coaches, authorized attendants or any other persons subject to the rules, before the game, during the game or between periods. Infractions for these acts by players are administered as either live-ball or dead-ball fouls depending on when they occur."

Did the upfield and belated bow "interfere with orderly game administration"? I say the answer is clearly no.

The play was long since over. The "infraction" occurred much later and way up field and away from the AZ players.

Why wasn't this a dead ball foul?

I say the bowing example was intended to prevent bowing shortly after the play and in the immediate area of where the play occurred. What if there had been a timeout, and the player bowed a minute after the play while on the bench? Is that an unsportsmanlike penalty?

That down, no fumble and touchdown call was a crock of shit big time.

I disagree, and keep in mind that I was very much rooting for the Ducks. The Arizona running back's forward momentum was clearly stopped. In fact in slow motion it appeared to me he was going backward when the ball was stripped. In my opinion it was the right call. The excessive celebration call on the other hand was crap. Should have been a dead ball (after the play) penalty. Back Oregon up half the distance to the goal and give them the ball. The rule as it stands licks gonads. And not in the good way.

seems a little ticky tacky but the rule was violated.

Plus, it's always a good day when ducks go down.

Running to midfield to bow after a play near the goal line must have seemed excessive to the refs.....AZ could have lined up quick to go for it on 4th down.....and the guy would have been offsides.....but his pink shoes were still very cool.

It was a dead ball, after the play penalty. It was after a 3rd down play. Dead ball personal fouls result in 15 yards and automatic first down. If the play had been made after a 4th down stop, it would be half the distance to the goal and Oregon's ball.

Oh f*ck me....right. My bad. Maybe I should put down my bottle of Jack Fire.

I can get on board with that. The problem I have is the difference between crews and how they call it. There have been numerous times in our games where the motion is clearly stopped and they go sideways then backwards a little then forward and sideways and make a 22 player pile before the whistle blows. in this game it was hit whistle fumble bang bang...I just wish there was a concrete area that could be reviewed. Maybe motion stopped for 1 second and done, maybe 2. I know that for the crew they called it how they call it, I just don't like that if it was a different crew calling the game it might be an Oregon win because of that play.

The "look at me!" Moment by 91 cost his team the game, and perhaps any chance at playoffs...

But he stays in game!

This thread is not FCS, but my point is about football generally ... specifically, polls. This will be something interesting to watch after the weekend games. Before last night’s game, there were just three undefeated FBS teams that were not ranked in the AP and/or USA-Today Top 25.

One was Georgia Tech, which is 4-0, but one of those is an FCS. They do have one win against a Power-5 team. Marshall is also 4-0, but -- again -- one of those was FCS and they have no wins against a P-5 team. The third undefeated team was, of course, Arizona (then 4-0) ... they had only played one P-5 opponent, but at least they had not played any FCS.

So the question is: Having knocked off the #2 team on the road, where will Arizona be ranked in the next polls? In the Top-10? (Personally, I have my doubts, because pollsters hate to be proven wrong.) How far will Oregon drop after losing at home to an unranked team?

Ya, definitely a judgment call and those are always tough.

You can flag some showboat in college but you can allow the "Lambeau Leap" in the NFL? Weird. I grow weary with players mugging for camera time at any level. Just play the game.

Oregon's shitty O-line and sieve-like defense are just as much to blame.

The fumble call wasn't a judgment call, in my view. The runner had been stopped. He had been pushed way back, and had no chance of getting away from the tackle, when the ball came out. Virtually every officiating crew in the country would make the same call, and any that didn't would have screwed up.
