M K had a couple of nice runs. Good vision and moves. Up front is better than last year. Unfortunately not saying much, but come on. It was the first game.

2.9 yards per carry....Middle of the pack MV team.

No.

Knight averaged 6.7 in 7 carries. That's pretty good. Eastwood averaged 1.8 in 8 carries. The team had 3 kneel downs at end, for a 1 yard loss each time. Without those, the runners averaged 3.3 yard per carry, including Sneed avoiding sacks. Still not good, but the drive mostly on the ground at the end of the game was not something that happened last season.

SD averaged 3.5 per carry.

2.9 per carry in the books. But, I understand the nuance.

I was responding to the comment "running game better than last year." It was not.

We'll see how they progress. The Griz took what the defense gave them last weekend, and it didn't require a superb running game.

Hope they average 3 or 4 this week.

I disagree soldier. At least the linemen knew their assignments. Did they fail to execute or did the running back miss the hole/lane? Maybe neither. You reference MVC stats. Fair enough. How about USD committed to stopping the run! They paid for it. Given their commitment to shutting down the run I would say the Griz did fine. I am interested in seeing how next week goes. I am willing to bet the scheme from this opponent is far different.

Going with 3. A loss of any size to UNA will not look good for the Griz. Every game outside Oregon is extremely important to win. Sure, we can get by with one or two losses, but the goal is to secure a high seed come playoffs.

Can't draw any conclusions about the running game. USD sold out to stop the run...Griz made them pay.

Griz receivers and explosive passing game are now on tape...may open up the run game. We'll see.

#2. Still some unanswered issues after game 1. Running game? Better than last year, but still unproven. Pass protection was miles ahead of last season, but it was only the first game and not sure how good the Yotes were. Pass coverage concerned me at times as well. Time to worry? Heck no. That was a great road win and an important one. Win the next one and we are on track to go 3-1 or 2-2 as we head into the important games.

They have arguably the best DE in the Missouri Valley Conf, and his name went relatively unheard throughout the game.....that should tell you a lot.

It's a big deal. Could be a so so win but a terrible loss come playoff selection time if we end up on the bubble.

Yeah, Im basically viewing every game this year as a need to win like we are on the bubble.

I feel like we will likely be on the playoff bubble all year.

100% agree. every game is huge.

3! If Knight has a good game it will pull the linebackers and safeties up, opening it up for the wide receivers! Knight’s vision and quickness will get him lots of touches this week! He’ll definitely get more touches than Eastwood! I see a big passing game and lots of drop offs and shorts passes too. That, along with our wide receivers could make for a huge win for the Griz!

Yep. Both Knight and Eastwood did a good job catching drop off passes. These have almost the same effect on defenses as runs outside the tackles. Of course Sneed put the ball right where it was easy to catch and run in stride.
I just don't see DOLA happening in the run game this year but good pass protection ain't nothing. In fact, it is even more valuable considering our WR group

3 - all of the regular season games are, aren't they...? Okay, except for Oregon...
^ This. All of the regular season games are important. True Expectations lowered at Oregon.
Plus the team and coaches want to see continued improvement daily & weekly, to achieve a higher quality of execution each successive game (peak play at playoffs, and as playoff time approaches).

Frank Gogola obviously agrees with most of EGriz on the importance of game 1.

My take on this week is that it is only a 2. More important for the season than our expected beat down in Eugene next week, but not up there with our conference games. At the end of the year it is probably not going to make a damn bit of difference whether we win this game big (as I expect) or squeak by or even lose :o . Especially if we win or are second in the BSC at the end of November.

I think it is important to find out if we can generate some semblance of a running game. Also get a lot of different players in and see what they can do. There is no guarantee that we will have some games with garbage time in the 4th (except maybe next week) and getting game experience throughout the depth chart matters. We've got a lot of season left.

Obviously I don't expect the team or Bobby to act like this isn't an important game. But I'm sure they aren't paying any attention to what one idiotic poster (me) says. I expect them to play hard all game.

Remember the choices
1. Not important. We got a whole season ahead and losing the first game at home really doesn't matter.

2. A big or close win will show that this team is a step or more ahead of last year. A close loss is not good but it doesn't mean much at the end of November.

3. Big deal. We need this one to show ourselves and the rest of the Big Sky that we will be a team to be reckoned with. Big loss will really be bad for us going forward.

4. Reserved for Griz - scats

I think this game is really important. With UM's Big Sky schedule, it needs every win it can get to bolster its playoff resume. And this is one of those games the Griz should win

The most important Game to win of the season is the very last game. The 2nd most important game to win is the Brawl of the wild. The 3rd most important win of the season is the very first game of the season. Pretty simple.

The most important shot in golf is your present shot. The most important game in football is your present game. Cannot achieve your goals any other way.

Where is Zen Griz when you need him?
