Impact of Injuries

Flowers is a DIFFERENCE maker in the return game. I haven't heard the extent of his injuries other than someone said he didn't travel to N. Colorado. Is he done for the season or a chance to return at some point?

Not that it's truly accurate, the depth chart has him listed.

Just looking at our previous rosters and depth over the years, it's way above average for us.

If you want the exact numbers, I can do that tomorrow when it isn't 4:00 am

I don't need exact numbers...don't kill yourself trying to get them, lol. Would we feel the same way if the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th string RB's were out, but Knight was not? Or if Brown and Patterson had gotten hurt in garbage time but Cam had stayed healthy? My only point is, 19 may be a high number, but it depends on who and at what position those injuries occur. Sulser is gone, and we haven't really missed a beat with the WR's....losing Flowers, on the other hand, has severely hurt our KR game...losing depth at O-line hurts...losing your starting right tackle & guard REALLY hurts....
All fair points, but I think this season we’re past a certain point where the sheer numbers actually matter, especially because the offense hasn’t been able to get into a rhythm at all. Losing Sulser might not seem like a big deal (I’d argue it’s huge, though. He was the #1 receiver in the spring), but it’s compounded when his replacement changes every other game due to injury. We’re now down to our 4th #3 WR.

But to your point on Knight, if he was healthy, that 19 number would be more like 15, since he’d be the starter every game, and that wouldn’t have increased the number of different starters (and we’d have been in much better shape because of it).

Fair points. I guess at the end of the day 19 can be high, low, or average, but for the Griz it's been impactful simply because of WHO has been injured.

Yeah, honestly the largest problem for us (on offense, especially) is that the bulk of those new starters came at arguably the 3 most important positions, although I'd argue that the same number of guys at other positions more spread out would still be a huge problem.

All of this is to say that no matter where the injuries are occurring, this season has had a much higher number than we've seen on average over the last 2 decades.

Great analysis men! Couldn’t agree more how impactful the loss of Sulser has been to this team.

Great conversation all the way on this one. All players are important, and yes a loss in key positions such as Running Back or QB is devastating. With all of the injuries, does anyone have a theory on why this has happened this year? I find it very telling and something that should be addressed or figured out.

Most of the opinions I have read online blame the short "off season" and then some odd practice schedules, leading into the fall season.

Football injuries, despite what many collegiate and professional teams might want to believe, are mostly random, with the exception (less so in college, but especially in the NFL) being that the only reliable predictor of future injuries is past injuries.

So I don't think there's any "problem" that, for example, led to all of our RBs getting hurt, other than just dumb bad luck.
