My kids and grandkids went-said the concert was great but the stadium 'shabby', not nearly as nice as WAGRIZ, and my granddaughter wanted a gas mask since they were going to be in the litter box (her term)

I’m sure she used a gas mask alright (inhale deep and exhale slow my friend)

While the evening was super windy and even a bit cool for a summer night, which distorted the acoustics, it was a fun, high-energy show in a venue well tailored for an outdoor concert. The traffic control, both pedestrian and vehicle, left a lot to be desired, but I will say it was the first time after attending many events there that I've ever seen cat fans leave Bobcat Stadium happy so that was kinda neat, in a sympathy kind of way. I might go there again for the right act, but I would much rather see a concert in Wa-Griz and it's not even close. Hey PJ!

You must not have been there for the last Cat\griz game then. Most Cat fans left that game pretty dang happy

You're right, I fortunately missed that one :) And kudos to Bozeman for booking such a big show in the first place and then pulling it off. I hope it's the first of many.

True story...a pretty large group of people behind us busted into an “ eat shit grizzlies go cats go” chant for a minute or two..at a rock concert...
That's awesome

I didn't go, but hopefully MSU keeps booking acts. Montana is such a dire place for concerts.

The concert situation has gotten much better with Mid-Major acts (Nathaniel Rateliff, Pixies, Wilco, etc.) coming through in recent years. The new Kettlehouse amphitheater in Missoula as well as the established Big Sky Brewery location has done well in bringing in these kind of shows. Bozeman will soon have a new venue just off 7th near the old Rainbow/now RSVP motel that is being put in by the same promoter that runs the Kettlehouse and the Wilma, so hopefully Bozeman can start picking up some of those same acts. The Rialto is also trying hard to get good shows. Hopefully the Traveler's Rest Festival can become a staple for Montana and bring in some even bigger names down the road. Even Billings has the Pub Station which is better than anything Bozeman currently has.

Forgot that the Magic City Blues Festival is coming with ZZ Top headlining this year.

True! The blues fest has been pretty good over the years. Makes up for the early years of Zoo Grass.

Went to the concert on Thursday as well. Overall, the University did a good job in setting up the stadium, parking, security, etc. Had no issues & really enjoyed the concert.

On a side note, anyone else notice how rusted out the one side of the stadium bleachers were? One side of the stadium looks great, the other looks like it hasn't seen fresh paint in 20+ years.....

My 12 year old daughter said “whoa these bleachers look like they may fall apart, are we even safe here” as we headed to our seats in those east side bleachers. They are completely rusted out and have a funky color to them. They are in dire need of replacement.

Although I don’t think they are actually structurally unsound, you’re right, they absolutely look like shit when there isn’t anyone in them.

Unfortunately it doesn’t sound like the east side bleacher part of the renovations aren’t until phase 2 or 3 of the stadium renovation plans, which has Cat fans all clamoring for the university to at least put a coat of paint on them so they don’t look so bad, something to hold it over until they’re replaced altogether.

I honestly cannot understand why MSU can't figure out how to paint the bleachers if they aren't going to replace them. Is there no donor who can come up with the $427 it would cost? Have a bake sale or something. It's baffling.

Got me. I know personally I’ve been holding out hope that it’s because they’re going to replace them altogether sooner than we think so it’d be a waste of time/money But after they released the full athletic facility plan, specifically the stadium plan, it became apparent that they’re going to do a couple other things first. Which is fine IF they’d paint the damn things in the meantime.

I hear you. I know I've said it before, so it's cold coffee, but not painting those bleachers because the stadium might be redone someday is like not mowing your lawn because you might put in a pool someday.

Agreed. If they were going to renovate the east side during this next offseason, then I couldn’t care less about the rust, it’ll be dealt with soon enough. If it’s going to be more than a year out for the renovations, which we now know it will be, then yes, spend the couple grand and paint the damn thing.

Ain’t it weird how the school and local businesses have no problem endorsing some volunteers doing that goofy C.A.T.S. video, but apparently won’t help some volunteers do a painting party?
I think I know why. They’ll do anything to bash the Griz (such as the stupid song) but if it has nothing to do with the Griz, then why bother? For instance, instead of just painting, if they could paint “FTG” on the bleachers, volunteers and business would line up.

If it was as simple as a coat of paint, costing a couple grand, it would have been done already.

Something needs to be painted or replaced. They know it won't be replaced in the short term, so . . .
It is that simple, and it's not done.

I think you're on to something. It's almost like UM has to paint some bleachers so MSU will do it, but not quite as well. See, e.g., The inflatable cat head in the south/east/southern corner they trot out to for the entrance.

I know part of the problem with painting those bleachers is that the old, rusty paint is full of lead. They don't want to do anything with it now so they don't disturb what's there. So next time you are sitting in those bleachers, best not to touch them at all.

From what I understand they plan to build offices and etc behind the scoreboard area for administrative/training areas and that is their priority before replacing the East Bleachers. They need to raise money for it and I wonder if they are hoping for a big donor to step up and fund it?

UM did paint the bleachers.....of Dornblaser Field.....in the summer of 1981.....Went to games that fall and everyone went home with green butts....from sitting on the green paint that didn't set real well to the bleachers!
