I'll be at the DeCuire press conference, 1pm

I get the feeling that this "former head coach" is going to be a wild card. How about this for a random pick, Ken Bone?

That'd be a major coup. But I can't see it.

You hate to see a beloved and successful coach move on, but Wayne has a great opportunity, and from all appearances, this provides a great opportunity for DeCuire, and UM's basketball program may benefit as well. Sounds like a high quality hire to replace a high quality coach.

Paulson off to OSU.

Blaine possibly back here as potential asst......? I hope not, would not think his bloated ego could handle it. Big distraction!

Huse could be a better fit, holst ok as a potential good fit.

Travis a great pick no matter what!!

 I was very impressed with Travis during the press conference! I believe he mentioned a former head coach would be part of his staff. Did anyone else hear this?

Sure did.

Taylor or the Holster?

Holst? No offense to Don, but hopefully you were joking. I wouldn't mind Blaine at all, but I just don't see that happening for some reason. It's a 'been there, done that' kind of deal. I think if he were going to take an assistant job at this point in his career, it would be at something bigger than the Big Sky level.
There is a Don Holst who is a principal in the Arlee School District. Is this the same Don Holst?

Yes that is our Don Holst at Arlee.

I don't see Don leaving a steady, good paying job for a assistant coaching gig. I think he would be fine at the job, but he wouldn't give up what he is doing now I wouldn't think. Talked to him at the Class C basketball divisional here in Butte this winter. He definitely still follows the goings on at the program.

About DeCuire: " But for Taylor, the play offered insight into the player. “You could see the exuberance,” Taylor said. “He loved the game, he loved the action, he loved the competition; you could just see that. It might have been an ill-advised play at the time. He didn’t try to do it in Division I, but it was entertaining to me. It showed he had personality.”

I think this speaks so well of how UM made a difficult transition at the loss of a terrific coach.

Ten years from now, we will be speaking of several recent/current Griz players this way. Jamar and Gregory in particular. They'll be back.

Looks like my "wild guess" wasn't so far-fetched after all...

Word on the streets is that the staff will be Ken Bone, Jono, and Nate Covill. If that is the case, gotta love what Travis is putting together!

That would be an awesome staff. They would bring this team some bite and toughness as well. :thumb:

That's quite the staff, Bone and Jono! Is Covill coaching right now? A quick search didn't turn anything up.

Ridgeview High School in Oregon...at least last season

if it is bone, the last two years of his contract at wsu are guaranteed, no matter he takes another job. thus the assistant basketball coach at the university of montana will be making more money per year than the governor, any of the board of trustees, the president of the university or his very own head coach.

Apparently the Covill hire was just a rumor. If all the other details are true, there's still one assistant spot that remains unknown.

I know Jono is on the staff. I am really hoping Bone is part of the staff. His PSU teams played tough and very hardnosed. His presence would be similar to Evans under Wayne. It is great having a veteran coach to show a 1st time head coach some tips and give advise.
