Ifanse

Let's hear you say that your running game will be better without Ifanse and he won't be missed.

Even if you lose both qb's.

Ifanse is a great...G-R-E-A-T running back and will be missed greatly. Just as he was missed for all of this previous year.

So, do you retract all the other BS you were saying?

Nope. Not trolling at all, PR. But it’s nice to see that Bobby has effectively lowered YOUR expectations as well. :thumb:
My expectations are the same, and I'm definitely not happy about this season.

I just don't need to make things up about Bobby and his teams' performances in order to justify my criticisms.

Not sure how you could have expectations one way or the other. Hauck himself said that in the new world of college football, it's about assembling a team for August. If that's the approach, as a fan, what do you base expectations on? Really. Is it the what the coach says he sees, numbers of star'd transfers brought in, the flashy recruits who finally age into opportunity or the results from the year prior. I'd be hard-pressed to have any realistic expectations given the uncertainty of any and all of these. Perhaps it's best not to have them at all. Why be disappointed? I'd rather be pleasantly surprised, given it has the makings of a more enjoyable season. But that's just me.

Back to that Ifanse guy. One less thing to have to worry about when November roles around next season. That's a good thing, right?

It won't be long before we start seeing posts about all the progress being made during winter conditioning. We'll see posts discussing linemen weight gains and bench press records. We'll hear about how so and so has emerged as a team leader. We'll start to hear how this might be the best team we've had since BH returned. These things will build through spring ball, and most on here will believe the hype...as will the BSC media.

It's like clockwork...start the countdown.

I didn’t make up anything. If you measure a teams’ success by how they did against teams that “made the playoffs” or whether said team “made the playoffs” themselves, you’ve already lost in the quest for excellence. We went 0-4 against teams from our own conference that made the playoffs, we backed into the playoffs, had one (miracle) win against a lame team that ALSO didn’t belong in the playoffs, then got blown out again by a legitimate team. So we went 1-5 against “playoff teams” but somehow we’re supposed to celebrate that we “made the playoffs”.

No thanks. I predicted it when the playoff selections were announced: making the field and getting a home game “gimme” against a mediocre opponent would just fuel all the “Bobby’s a successful coach” people by bragging about making the playoffs and meaningless playoff victories. It would obviate Bobby’s need to make real, meaningful changes on his coaching staff. And here we sit, four weeks after the end of the season and the only coaches that have left departed of their own volition.

Next season will be rinse/repeat unless there are substantive changes, and I’m not holding my hand on my ass waiting for that. Did we have a tough schedule this year? Yes we did. But if you can’t beat ONE playoff team from your own conference how do you expect to win a national championship? If you brag about how great and tough your conference was and then watch them all get rolled in the playoffs, how great was the conference REALLY?

But, like I predicted the Haucksuckers’ response to backing into the playoffs this year, I’ll predict next season right now. Barring a major coaching shakeup or the signing of about 3 FBS O-linemen 2 starting corners and a high quality, mobile QB out of the portal, this is likely how it’ll go:

We have a much more favorable schedule and we’ve got real cupcakes on the non-conference schedule (although I stand by my prediction that there’s a better than 50/50 chance we lose to Ferris State). We avoid Weber and EWU, but as things stand right now I think we lose @ UCD, to Sac State, @ Idaho and to MSU (the only difficult games on the schedule). We’ll be 7-4 (6-4), 4-4 in conference, with another 4th or 5th place finish and all the saccharin-sweet fans will brag about how Bobby’s got it “turned around and headed in the right direction”—in year SIX, but blaming injuries, reffing, or aliens for our shitty season. We can kiss a playoff slot goodbye, since a win against Ferris St won’t count but a LOSS surely would count AGAINST.

And honestly, if we’re now measuring success by “XX wins” or “making the playoffs” and have ZERO legitimate chance or belief that we have NC aspirations (and not willing to identify and fix the obvious deficiencies that are keeping us back), then why NOT move up and just go to a bowl game? Because that approach is EXACTLY what every G5 team espouses. They measure success by wins and bowls.

Griz Nation has become the ‘Scat fans of the ‘00’s…cheering middle-of-the-pack conference finishes and praying to make the playoffs. I’m old enough to remember when the Griz were playing football into December in Missoula every year.

I eagerly await the coaching shakeup announcement today or tomorrow because if it doesn’t come, that sad prediction above is coming true. :| :|

Aaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnndddddd……I’m spent.

SEMO was a very good team and deserving of the playoffs.

Your primary goal winning the conference is a joke.

Bobby turned the program around in year 2 and has it continuing in the right direction.

Losing a top qb is a legitimate explanation, or "excuse". Ohio St. coach has said their loss of the receiver Harrison impacted the game. Just a fact.

D's nuts. It's a new chain in bozeman that opened up. Their most popular item is called Schwetty balls.

Bro, I feel you, and we’ve been over this, but you’re confusing the point of my posts here. I’m also worried about next season, and the way the program is going. I had high hopes that we’d be competing for at least those final 4 semis spots by now, and it’s frustrating that we’re not.

But until this year we were getting better each season, and this new regime has done a bit better than the previous one. It’s still not where we want to be, and that sucks, but I just get frustrated when people act like we haven’t been better because we have.

I think that’s what’s so frustrating for many people that are over Bobby at this point. You don’t want him around anymore, but the entire body of his performance over the last 4 full seasons hasn’t been bad enough to let him and his staff go. If what you fear happening plays out next season, and we go 7-4 and miss the playoffs, I don’t think there will be many people left that want to keep the Hauck 2.0 experiment going, including boosters and the AD.

You have to admit it's more pleasant to read/hear about your scenario than reading/hearing about a player leaving the team because he wasn't being developed. There may be two subtly different things afoot here. Being a college athelete is damn hard and if someone notices the energy , effort & results and makes note for those of us who aren't sweating along side in the champions center, or during winter conditioning, so much the better. They deserve the little bit of attention being focused on them, but so do the kids in basketball, soccer, softball, etc. We should all have high hopes for them as individuals who will contribute to the successes of the teams we root for. I truly applaude the hard work and dedication shown.

Don't make expectations of the football team based on talk about what's going on outside the white lines. That would be my advice. Football is after all, a team game, not a series of individual accomplishments. I get that some will, and it's a free country, they get to.

Pretty reasonable take. But what about Ifanse?

Football is 100% an individual sport.

Without understanding what D's are either, and yet still laughing at the comment, I'll just add that the idea of Isaiah being a great player and will be greatly missed is not mutually exclusive of the Cats standing a great chance of being better at rushing the ball next year. Both can be true at the same time. It's not a zero sum game. Anyone who has actually played the game will understand this.
