If you're upset over Pat Williams calling FB players thugs

If his purpose was to use his status as a member of the BOR in order to influence the outcome of a criminal trial in favor of his "friends" then this action was not simply indiscretion, it could be construed to be criminal. The State Attorney General should be investigating as to what charges can be filed against PW.
 
I agree big time with JST--a jury is being selected today for JJ's trial. I would not be surprised if JJ's lawyers make another motion to dismiss the charges based on Pat's big mouth--he's not Joe Sixpack. He's a member of The BOR and a former 9 term Montana Congressman !!! If Dave Paoli doesn't, rest assured they at least have a new grounds for appeal in the unlikely event JJ is convicted.

Pat is not a lawyer, but he knows how the world works as a longtime Congressman and yes, as a UM alum. His remarks are patently unfair to JJ, his defense team, and his family right before his trial begins !!!

He is better than this, and he owes his fellow GRIZ alum, the current students, and especially the current and past GRIZ team members who have done so much for the school an apology. Yes we've had a few dirtbags--Beau Donaldson--but they are completely overwhelmed by the outstanding young men that have matriculated at UM and played footabll for The GRIZ, such as Dave Dickensen, Dr. Vince Huntsberger, Colt Anderson, Dan Carpenter, Chris Snyder, Shane MacIntyre, Dylan McFarland, Matt Theusen, Lex Hilliard, etc.

Football is not basketball or golf, tennis, or soccer. The team has 100 players, not 15 or 20 on its roster. Despite the best efforts of coaches, some thugs are going to be recruited because when recruited, they were not known to be thugs due to the fact they hadn't made any poor decisions yet or if they had, their juvenile records were sealed. And neighbors, coaches, and teachers are normally going to make the best truthful comments about a prospective GRIZ player, not shoot him down when asked by GRIZ coaches about said prospective GRIZ player. Does anyone honestly believe Bobby Hauck would have recruited Beau Donaldson had he known the kid was an aspiring rapist? (I am not Bobby Hauck's biggest fan, but he ran a clean program and graduated his kids ! He did give Greg Coleman of Iowa Qwentin Freeman of Arizona a second chance and it came back to bite him, but I do think a liberal-minded institution of higher learning should give at least some selective athletes a second chance. )

I am glad Engstrom and Jean Gee modified the student-athlete code of conduct to deal with present and future dirtbags that fly under the radar and their true nature surfaces only once they are students at The University of Montana. But there is just no way that more than a slight, slim, count them on one hand handful of dirtbags were/are on our roster, and if you want proof of that, just look at the dearth of arrests.

If his purpose is to influence, it extends beyond the trial. He's already concluded what the DOJ, NCAA and DOE should be finding in their investigations.

If a member of the BOR can find the time to recklessly spout his views about our "thuggish" student athletes to a national media outlet, then the people who are tasked with overseeing the BOR damn well better have time to listen to what their constituents think about what he had to say (whether positive or negative).

Don't worry, I'm sure they'll still have plenty of time to read whatever tinfoil hat constituent letters you've sent them this month. :roll:

They shouldn't represent the views of any MEMBER of the Board of Regents either.
 
So what does it take to get Williams dismissed from his BOR position? Sorry, if this has been addressed elsewhere. I have not read through every thread on this subject yet.

He hasn't been confirmed yet, so only the Senate can remove him from being a regent. Once he is confirmed the only way he can be removed from being a regent is for misconduct under the constituion

Appointment and Terms of Regents
Regents are appointed for 7‐year terms by the governor, except the student regent,
who serves for 1 year. Regents do not serve at the pleasure of the governor, as do
executive department heads. Regents, once appointed, cannot be removed except
for misconduct pursuant to the Montana Recall Act

The other regents have no say on removing a regent, and certainly the Commissioner has no say as the regents are his boss.

There's an anti college football climate developing in this age of Obama and I think it is gaining momentum. I think the NY Times may be showing interest in this story for the purposes of furthering the political agenda against college football. The old gray lady can always count on a made to order mouthpiece like Pat Williams.
