If you were to pick the two Super Bowl teams right now..

Oh and BTW - can the NFL this year please take the NFC West and remove their "auto-bid" per say? They're going to send a 7-9, or 8-8 team, maybe 9-7 at best that gets a home game. Meanwhile depending on how other teams play down the stretch one of GB, Chi, NO, TB, ATL, NYG, or Philly will get left out - a tragedy.

To preface this, I'm a Seahawks fan, so my team obviously stands to benefit from the current system, assuming they beat the Rams in the final week and win probably one more (but maybe not). If you're going to take the playoff bid away from a division winner, then you may as well just do away with the divisions. I mean, what's the point of playing in a division if the results don't mean anything? If the NFL wants to send the teams with the best record, then they should just have two conferences and send the top 6 from each. And the point about the Cardinals is a good one...no one expected anything out of them a couple of years ago and they damn near won the Super Bowl.

I'll also say that while I want the Seahawks to win the NFC West, I almost cringe at the thought of them making the playoffs. I thought earlier in the year that having homefield in the wild card round would give them a fighting chance for at least one game, but getting blown out by KC and the Giants at Qwest has proven otherwise.

I would not personally disagree with a conference format, but I think the NFL has too much vested in divisional rivalries like Bears-Packers, Eagles-Giants, Raiders-Broncos, etc. to do away with divisions entirely.

Yeah, Just NFC and AFC...

6 wins against your foes in the NFC West right now is like 2 wins against foes in any other division... But the trends change, maybe next year everybody but one will be real tough in the NFC West...

I mean, look at Indy... Who would have thought???

But with a conference format you would run into same issues you run into in the BCS. The top 3-4 teams would be pretty easy to figure out but what happens when you have 4 teams with the same record and some have not played each other. What would you do to determine who gets in.

before saturday evening i was hearing that the bobs were a lock, but i guess they aren't now?

food for thought, oakland won there division are 6-0 in the division, and do not make the playoffs so in all honesty, being a division winner means nothing in the nfl .

easy with 16 teams per conference everybody plays each other once, and one interconference game.

You can't play yourself. So thats 15 games. Stop using cat math. So you have 3 teams with 10-6 records lets say. For the sake of arguement lets just say Eagles,Saints and 49ers...The eagles beat the 49ers the 49ers beat the saints the saints beat the eagles. you need to put in one team. Who? Are you going to go with PF/PA? Because that will cause a bunch of issues.

Saints and Patriots

Best 2 QBs in the game and both have proven themselves in the playoffs.

Bears and the Patriots

Dome teams are done this year.
I would love this....a repeat of Superbowl XX in 1986, Bears won 46-10.
I would of coarse be screamin' for the Bears but don't think the score would be very similar to the Super Bowl XX score.....

Anyone other than the Stealers against the Saints.

I agree, pard. I get so sick of the larceny going on all over the place, and to think that they might play against those who can do no wrong makes me sick. I think it will be the Patriots against the Eagles in the extremely relevant to I-AA football NFL Superbowl.

If he doesn't rape someone before the playoffs the Steelers will survive in the playoffs, until their trip to Foxboro.
