Come on Player. You called us out, now i'm calling you out. I'd love to hear you defend the decision to kick a FG (or agree that it was a bad decision). Seriously. I'm not trolling for a fight here. I want to understand that rationale, because the opposite was a no-brainer to me and i feel like i'm missing something.

If all we can come up with is, "we needed to capitalize on the turnover and get some points on the board" well that fricken backfired, didn't it? And we all knew SS wasn't done scoring, and FGs weren't going to get the job done. The risk far outweighed the benefit, and should have been obvious to any coach.

I didn't call "us" out. I just asked for specifics on why this poster said the coach doesn't have a "clue". I assume the post can't specify reasons--probably beause he doesn't know what's he's talking about.

I wondered if UM would go for it then, or when they lined up for a FG, would try a fake. It was 4th and 6 as the SS 19. There was over 4 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter. It wasn't desperation time yet, being down only 2 TD's. Except for the prior week, McKnight has been automatic from this distance in the past several years. The FG probably seemed like a sure thing. Would build on the momentum. I could see this going either way. I would probably have gone for it. I don't think this one call means the coach doesn't have a "clue".

Whether to go for a TD or a FG, is a personal opinion for any fan, but to you, everyone who disagrees with the coaches, or with you, knows nothing about football. And the beat goes on.....

Who does complaining about cars have in common with complaining about your team? Some of the complete lack of logic and basic intelligence on this board makes me wonder how some get through a single day of life.

We'll all be sure to agree with you on everything, so that we can all wake up again tomorrow morning.....

Good thing this is just an "opinion" board... and I know this is Obama's New America, but until all his Minions fully take over the airwaves and internet, I think we are all still free to comment on what we think and believe from viewing the same game. 2000 E-Grizzers = 2000 different opinions. I agree with some of Brint's post, and think some of it is BS. But please don't order E-Grizzers to do anything or agree with you, or this place wouldn't be worth a siht to tune in to. :argue:

GREAT POST!!!!

Thanks. Thats about what i figured the rationale to be. I disagree with the decision in a BIG WAY because i think it was nearing desperation time as we couldn't stop em, and that was our best chance to close the gap. IMO, it is the best evidence that there is a problem at the top. They were not playing to win and it showed on the teams faces near the end.

I would have been pleased if they simply attempted to convert using all 4 downs (and then repeat until you punch it in or leave a long field) instead of the late shot to the endzone. Even at the time i thought, "this has to be a fake." This analysis is in line with other's comments re 20 yard passes on 3rd-n-short.

UM did try to punch it in. They ran 2 running plays first, for 4 yards in total. We don't know what the play call was on third down, or who the primary receiver was. JJ may have gone to an alternate receiver. I don't think the call had anything to do with whether UM was playing to win or not. Of course, they were playing to win. They weren't just trying to make it a slightly closer game. I don't believe you can or should make the conclusion you're apparently making based on this play, or any one play.

You guys are way too intense after a loss.
I attended the Sac / Griz game last year in Montana, and I could tell that the Hornets were a vastly imp[roved team, and that the Griz ,though good, were no longer a dominate force in the league. I came away from that game thinking the Hornet's should have won.I love the griz because I was born and raised in Montana, but the league is changing. No one stays on top forever. Sac is going to be good again next year along with the cat's and weber.

Do any of you "fans" listen to the players? Why are they coming to Montana over other schools? A large majority of them are saying it is because of the support of the Griz fans that tips the scales for them.

If Phlu is a winner, why is his kid at ASU? He knows about his daddy because he used to sit at the same dinner table and listen to his issues.

Griz fans are definately the best and I do believe in this contributes to some of our players choices.

His son not coming to Montana had nothing to do with sitting with Daddy at the same table. If that had been the case he wouldn't have gone to Oregon to play while his Daddy was still a coach there. He went to ASU to stay in FBS football and while I love Montana girls, if I was a young man who had a full ride at ASU or Montana, I would be Arizona bound too.

My point is that with some of our "fans" who are running down the program, be it coaches or kids, all they are doing is making it harder for us to recruit a kid that may be on the fence. Some kids dream of playing in Montana, some fall for the place on their visit and others have to weigh their options. According to a lot of the interviews I have been hearing as of late and in the past, for some of the kids trying to decide where to go, the football community was a big part of their choice.

The vast majority of people bashing this team have no idea of what it takes to play football at the FCS or FBS level. They think they know the game and just like Uncle Rico, if they only had the chance, things would be different. I played, and I loved every minute of it. However since then I have had both shoulders and one knee done. I ran into an former player of my era at the Cal Poly game and saw the zipper on his neck. But I would do it all over again in a heart beat but not because of the cheer of the fans, but because I loved being part of that team and working together for a common goal. Most of us don't have a clue what is going on during the game and it is very easy to make adjustments from your armchair. Just show up and cheer on YOUR MONTANA GRIZZLIES and let the chips fall where they may because if anybody on this board believes O'Day is going to decide the fate of a coach based upon egriz, your just worse off then I thought.

We are behind the players, its the coaching staff we are having the problem. They are busting there asses for a coach that does not have a clue.

I think it's a safe guess that Pflu and Co. have won more games coaching the Griz than anybody on this board. Just sayin'.

No one who is a Griz fan, and who wastes his time on this earth posting on this board, will not continue to be a Griz fan, and will support the players till the end. However, we don't need you to reprimand us like a grade school teacher.... or tell us to "hit the door" if we don't abide by your admonishments. You are no more a Griz fan that anyone else. Perhaps just more obsessed.

You my friend are part of the problem not the solution. No optimism and no faith. whine whine whine over internet message boards all you want but its not going to translate into the griz winning games. this is supposed to be a fun place to to read and discuss Grizzly sports, and its people like you who make people not want to come back. Just a grade A hater.

How some of you think you know more about football and winning games that the coaching staff is just plane asinine. Maybe Laughable is a better way to describe it.

I don't know....they've set the bar fairly low... 8-)

my gawd this thread is full of holier-than-thou prima donnas. perhaps it is worth mentioning in here for the millionth time that bobby hauck never played college football, yet he seems to get people to listen to his views on the game.

but probably not.

I respect your opinion, but could not disagree more. Trying to punch it in would be equivalent to trying to convert, which they did not attempt. Watch the 3rd down again. Gratton (i believe) was the primary receiver as JJ did not look anyone off. We needed 6 yards to convert but we ran 20 yard routes. I'm okay with taking a shot at the endzone, but it should have been on 1st or 2nd down, for the surprise factor (which even Hermes picked up on) and more importantly leaving 3rd and 4th to convert. Instead, they take the shot on 3rd and then attempt the FG. Clearly the stategy was, if we don't score on 3rd, we'll just kick it. I think in that situ the offense should slow down and be deliberate because with a short field we're not going to tire the D out. I further believe the hurried offense lead to the two rushes without foresight into 3rd and 4th. That whole series should have been better managed, and not winged. Attempting a FG in that situ is "trying to make it a slightly closer game" given the FACT that we could not stop them.

The game came down to that series; it was the most important one. They did not show the attitude of trying to control their own destiny, and imposing their will, which we are all so accustomed to. If the coaches fail to recognize the importance of that series, and need for a TD, we have a bigger problems than crappy special teams and an inexperienced QB.

That's true, but he actually did it, he didn't sit around whining on a message board about it. Hey, man, if any of the complainer here can get their resume together and go do it better than Pflu, then more power to 'em. I'll root for their squad and staff, too! Go Griz!

I won't argue the merits of that line of thought. I just wanna say this:
I would LOVE IT if more criticism of the team/staff could be worded in a constructive manner like this. I think it's absolutely fair to criticize, but not to denigrate and belittle and use the hate that is often spewed here. I'll be the last guy to call for censorship; I just want the discussion to be worthy of Griz Nation.
