If the Cats make the championship game, they will almost have to have homefield advantage IMO.

This...

Completely different road team than home team. A tough semi-final match-up away could be tough to swallow.

Unless it's at EWU. I personally think MSU gets so amped up for a rematch against EWU, that it doesn't matter where the game is played.

I agree that any other potential Top 5 Seed team would be a very tough win for the Cats on the road.

Very true.

I've heard a lot of people knocking teams in FCS this year because of weak schedules.

Well take a look at the GPI. It's an objective way of determining how 'strong' a team looks based on their past performance. You can break down schedule as much as you want, but every team has a schedule where you can insinuate whatever you want.

The GPI measures every team on the same criteria.
http://www.collegesportingnews.com/stats/writer/gpi/20121112GPI.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So when MSU is ranked 2nd to 4th in every single ranking that goes into the GPI, they apparently have done more with their schedule than 95% of every other team in FCS.

The same can be said for SHSU. People have been saying they have a soft schedule, but if that was really the case - how are they ranked 2nd to 6th in every single ranking from the GPI?

MSU's schedule (GPI Rankings):
Drake = 67
Chadron = (Similar to Drake based on Massey Ratings)
SFA = 44
UNC = 47
SUU = 29
UCD = 48
EWU = 4
UND = 36
Sac St = 31
PSU = 46

(In regard to Chadron, they are 222nd in Massey, Drake is 224th)

So, MSU's weakest opponent was Drake/Chadron which is top 55% of FCS. Every other opponent is top 40% of FCS. There were definitely stronger schedules that were played by other teams this year, but MSU by no means played a weak schedule.

According to Massey, they have the 28th toughest SOS. (Note there are 122 teams in FCS)

It's too bad when intelligent fans like Brint get their threads hijacked by a
braying donkey like GB1. I'm sure Wahlberg has some deep emotions about
"The Game" like we all do but IMO chat boards like Egriz & Nation are a place
for civil discussions not for talking sh*t. Really, How tough do you think you are
when you type your hatred? C'mon, man up !!

While I've got all this information pulled up...

UM Schedule (GPI Ranking):
SD = 56
ASU = 13
Liberty = 60
NAU = 12
EWU = 3
UNC = 47
SUU = 29
UND = 36
ISU = 99
WSU = 57

Griz average opponent rank = 41.2 (26th SOS)
Cats average opponent rank = 41.9 (28th SOS)

So actually, really similar strengths of schedules for both Montana schools this year. Griz did have three top 15 games, whereas the Cats only had one - but the Griz also had four sub-50 games, where the Cats only had two.

So I would say that Griz have had tougher and easier games (wider spread of difficulty), while the Cats have played a more consistently challenging schedule (less spread of difficulty). Both essentially come out with the same average.

Agreed.

Didn't you just re-hijack it after it had gotten back on track?? Just sayin.

I feel like this goes right along with our record being 5-5

If the bobcats get a #2 seed and home field I could see them making a nice run. They are a fine team and they will go as far as their offensive line will take them. They have a great defense and good skill players. Cody Kirk runs like a demon and if they had our offensive line they would beat NDSU hands down imho. I just think it’s tough to maintain consistent play without dominant big bodies up front. They wouldn’t be my pick to win out but I sure wouldn’t want to play them if I were an opposing team though either.

The NDSU Bison are definitely the team to beat but this last game of theirs
is no slam dunk. TSN is picking Illinois St. to upset the Champs so there are
a lot of scenarios that could play out for the #1 and #2 teams before Sunday.
In any case it's still kinda freaky to me that tomorrows game is not for the
Big Sky Championship. I always figured that if we got better, The road to the
BSC would start and end in Montana and both teams fans could take pride in
that fact. Not smack talk at all, The game of football is cyclical. I hope at
next years game we're ranked #1 and #2 in the nation! :thumb:

p.s. Get rid of Delaney. I played for him and he's out of his element

For the poster who thought the Cats might play Sac in the first round--- don't they still have the rule that you don't play another conf school in the first round? Nothing's sacred in the second round.

Already planning on Frisco. That's pathetic, and a typical cat-like attitude. No creampuff schedule in the playoffs, even the last seeded team is capable of handing you your ass IN BOZEMAN. The toughest part of watching the scats on TV is going to be finding a sweatshirt to wear from the opposing team on such short notice. One and out! Remember, in Montana, your're either a Griz or a scat, there's no in between.
GO WHO-EVER-THE-HELL-YOU-PLAY! FTC!

That's a shitty attitude. I'll always root for the Cats when they're not playing us. Something special about seeing a bunch of Montana kids doing well.

I didn't read this thread, but, if we win, I still think NDSU is the team to beat.

if they lose this week that could bode terribly for MSU. i could see the committee placing them in the same side of the bracket.
