Idaho

The Big Sky has too many teams as it is, so why take Idaho back.
If they were too good for us a few years back, then I think they should be left to swim in now mans land.
They could alway go NAIA.

Murphy is a sports columnist for the Idaho Statesman newspaper in Boise. I'm looking forward to conference basketball games against the Griz. For our independent football schedule I hope we'll sign a home and home deal with Montana. The little brown stein needs to come home.

But FBS cannot travel to FCS for games...unless they get an NCAA waiver I believe. Which is possible if they are independent if they can't fill I think.

Not entirely accurate - what you describe was a WAC rule, not an NCAA one.

And in regards to Idaho, no thanks. Not for oly sports, anyway. It's basically akin to them saying "our football program is too good for the Big Sky Conference, but we'll park our Olympic Sports there out of convenience and until something better comes along". Good luck with that, by the way.

If they were willing to join as an all-sports member, then it'd be a no-brainer. If I were Fullerton I'd tell them to come back in 2 - 3 years when they've figured out what they want to do with their football program.

If what I hear is true, there is a lot of money left on the WAC table because of the exit fees, etc. from the teams that have left for the MWC, meaning that while Idaho is in a world of hurt they don't want to miss out on a bigger payday than anything in the BSC can provide. New Mexico State is in the same line with the Vandals as the lone football-playing WAC survivors.

That's great. Who's Idaho going to be playing in their 2013 WAC schedule? NMSU 7 times? Tx State and UTSA will undoubtedly be in the Sun Belch after this season, and probably the same for NMSU.

Maybe Idaho could play themselves for the WAC Championship and pocket the money.

What are your facilities like Screamin?

Our 7,000 seat basketball pavilion which received new lower seating and video scoreboards in the off-season is exponentially better than what Idaho has going on for hoops (playing in an aircraft hanger).

Once the Gateway Project is complete, our football facilities will be better as well. :thumb:

This.

Two years ago: Replaced grass with top of the line turf.
This year: Replacing outdated scoreboard with top of the line video board the size of Wazzu's, but higher resolution and built in sound system.
In the works: Fundraising for new East side grandstands/athletics building that will increase capacity to about 15k-16k.

See the Missoulian blog. The figure is $1.5 million for the last WAC member(s) standing. It's not about scheduling- or Idaho's lack of opponents.
