Idaho Vandals considering Big Sky

In addition to a loss in revenue, a change from FBS to FCS would mean a smaller budget, a reduction of football scholarships from 85 to 63 to fit FCS requirements, and an analyzation of all teams in the athletic department.

I would assume with Title 9 requirements, they would have to drop 22 women's scholarships? That probably would be entire women's sport that have to be dropped?

The Addition of Idaho helps clear up the football situation. But a 14 team basketball conference would have some issues....

BSC North
Montana
Montana State
North Dakota
Eastern Washington
Portland State
Idaho State
Idaho

BCS South
Southern Utah
Northern Arizona
Weber State
Cal Poly
UC Davis
Sacramento State
Northern Colorado

It would only be a 12 team basketball conference because Cal Poly and UC Davis are football only members in the Big Sky Conference.

Where do BSC members Hartford and Binghamton factor into this?

Word is, they both have Foolerton's ear and their opinion carry a great deal of weight with him. After all, they are in high population areas, which as we know, has been critical to the success of the bsc recently. I would assume they will soon be granted full membership and be given byes info all championship games. Because. You know, population.

Makes sense to me. I'm hoping to get a few more teams in the conference. College of Southern Idaho and Treasure Valley seem like good candidates.

Chadron St. would be in the same category that NDSU and SDSU were several years ago - too tough for the coastal members, even though an ideal travel partner for BSC powerhouse UNC.

MSU is rumored to be steadfastly opposed to Chadron joining the conference, however.
They are just as steadfastly opposed to Humboldt St. and CWU.

Not necessarily, title 9 requires equal amount of women's scholarships, if they dropped down they could feasibly keep all the sports they currently have, they would just have more scholarships out there for women.

Whenever I run into a Vandal fan, I usually try to mention that I hope to see them back in the BSC at some point for football. Without fail, they are absolutely offended at the mention of it. Their answer is always "No way that is going to happen". It is actually kind of fun to get under their skin that way. But I haven't met a single Vandal fan that wants to come back to the BSC. Not saying it is a scientific poll. Just the ones I have run into.

Not arguing with you, but I have had the exact opposite reaction with Idaho alumni in SE Idaho.

I live in the Boise area, and work with a ton of Vandals. Most would welcome a return to the BSC. They're not proud of it, but the last couple of decades have been pretty humbling, and the impression I get is that they'd rather have 'fun' games to watch. The Sun Belt isn't a home, just a conference willing (desperate enough?) to take them in, and most Vandal fans know this...

It's funny to me that Larry Donovan is talking about the Idaho Vandals, because he was the coach for the one and only time I ever booed the Grizzlies...

We drove down to the Kibbie dome and watched the "bone" get destroyed in the first half to a 28-0 Vandal lead. The Vandals get the 2nd half kick and drive down and score to make it 35-0 On the next kickoff the Griz run it back to near the 50. Three straight runs up the middle and a punt later and I booed as loud as I could, me and my 700 other friends!

It also depends on what the schools male to female ratio is.

Vandals were a great rival of ours.
We ended up with the little brown stein!
I would love to see them back in our conference or a brand new conference.... we attended every away game and they were a tough team to beat! Easy trip to make.

Payton, I was at that game too. I was attending Idaho at the time as a NROTC midshipman, and stood in the sea of Vandal fans in my Griz gear cheering as loud as I could. To no avail. I realize Donovan is the main reason we have the Mecca now, but MAN, his football was hard to watch...
