Idaho to the BSC?

Here in Southern Idaho many of the UofI guys I know seem to think that the back to BSC thing is a non-starter for many inside and out of the UofI athletic department. First dropping from FBS to FCS is uncharted water. No one really could chart the costs incurred and how long as one guy pointed out, how long until Idaho would be allowed to compete in the post season. One year, two years, four years?

The path that seems to be gaining strength WAC membership for all sports and FBS independent status for football. Most seem to absolutely abhore the prospect of going back to the Sun Belt. Though I can't say what is going in Moscow, but many seemed to suggest that constructing a FBS schedule with regional FBS schools seemed promising. That is from a booster standpoint and not from a logistical one within the athletic department.

I'd hate to be in Idaho's shoes, most of it seems on making a choice that limits losses more than being a win-win situation. Either way the next two or three years may be pretty dang sketchy for UofI.

Beggars can't be choosers, and begging might not be enough to stay afloat.

I remember sitting next to some Vandal fans when the Griz beat them several years ago in the WSU stadium. They were very nice people that respected UM and they certainly remembered the days when Idaho was a powerhouse in the FCS. They liked being in the big leagues but did not relish seeing their team get beat most weekends. Of course they were not even playing their games in their own stadium at the time. And of course, losing to the Griz that day didn't make them feel any better about their situation. It seemed that they were torn as to what was better for the Vandals; being a power house in the FCS or being a member with little success in the FBS.

It is not unlike the discussions on this board. I can imagine those same arguments would continue if the Griz moved up and were not winning the league every year. As much as I used to HATE the Vandals I can't help but have some simpathy for their fans and the situation they are in. I personally wish they would rejoin the BSC. I loved hating them.

Sitting in Martin Stadium that Saturday and seeing Lewiston ID native Jimmy Farris make that great end zone winning catch seems somehow ironic today.

Idaho's options.

Winston-Salem just dropped from FCS to DII, and made the playoffs 1 or 2 years later. So I'm not really sure there actually is any sort of NCAA-mandated post-season probation...

They would become playoff eligible as soon as the got down to 63 scholarships. unlike the DII to FCS move the recruiting standards are the same for FBS and FCS, that is why DII schools have a 5 year plan usually because they need to graduate the kids recruited at the lower standards.

I think many UI fans would rather drop football before facing their BSU neighbors as a lower division team.
