Idaho talking to Big SKy

Idaho should try to stick it out as an independent. 3 FCS games per year, 2 or 3 regional FBS home and home games and the rest BCS-type money games. They would probably, at best, only get 4 home games per year but it's not like they are making all their money with ticket sales. They might be able to scrape by on that and at least still be able to call themselves FBS. I really don't see that much difference for them between my scenario above and what they have now.

They can always get games with Notre Dame and BYU.

As laughable as Idaho's athletic program is I hope that they stay up. Mostly so I can dream about Montana moving up and playing them again. Maybe the MWC/Conference USA throws them a bone. Dream scenario the MWC invites Idaho, Montana, Montana State and Boise State, all accept, an intraconference playoff is instituted with Conference USA with winner getting a berth into the newly expanded 8 team BCS playoffs. Montana sweeps through the playoffs and wins the BCS national championship - I die happy.

As my old man used to say, "don't hold your hand on your ass waitin' for that to happen...it'll grow there."

By rule, Idaho has to schedule at least 5 home games against FBS opponents in order to retain FBS status. If they couldn't do that, I suppose they could keep playing in a kind of college football oblivion that is somewhere in the twilight zone between FBS and FCS, and never be eligible for the postseason until they join a proper conference to get enough home games. Then again, Idaho has fallen short of the FBS attendance requirement several years running, so who knows if the NCAA will ever enforce their own rules.

If this is truly the case... I'm guessing that eventually the NCAA will force Idaho to move down.

They only cancelled camp for grades 9-12. They are still holding the K-8 camps. They are already moving down, maybe to Jr High status...

the 5 fbs home games rule will be applied just as strictly as the attendance rule.

U-La-La had four FBS home games last year (and played in a bowl), and Eastern Michigan averages 4K per game at home.

EMU then magically jumps 10,000 every other year to meet the minimum. Pretty funny that they cook the books but don't even try to hide it
