Idaho State to play Boise State in WNIT

Nice draw for Idaho State. I think they can beat Boise, although Boise is hosting which is a big advantage. The game is Thursday with the winner advancing to play at TCU .

I would have considered Portland State as a possible as well. A lot better than some other teams the WNIT chose, as far as I am concerned. At least the BSC got one team into it, Idaho State, wish them luck and hope they win.

I just don't know how I can say..."Go Bengals!!!" Well, at least, it's against someone else.

I would agree, but many of those teams got in the same way ISU did.

This may be the first time ever then, if not. This definitely has the potential if the Bengals ever get motivated enough to not just tank it in lieu of a supposed superior opponent, like most other BSC teams seem to have done in the past.

Noticed that these two teams have played each other once before this season, Boise State winning in Pocatello 29 December 2007, 78 - 74, if not mistaken. Most stats seem pretty even from that first encounter except primarily for the offensive rebounds, 14 to 7 in favor of the Broncos, 49 to 36 in total rebounds as well. Allowing Boise State to go 32 - 72 on FGs for 44.4 % isn't going to help either, the Bengals will have to finally play some defense instead of trying to outshoot everyone. Which should be a possibility since Boise St. doesn't seem to rely on their frontcourt personnel to score for them evidently but to play defense; having 5' 9" junior Jessica Thompson & 5' 7" senior Tasha Harris carrying the offensive threat for them. Thompson lit ISU up for 21 in their last meeting, scoring 25 on the LG in their game. What hurt the LG in their loss to the Broncos was going 3 - 18 for 16.7 % on treys; all else was really even: 24 FGs each, 13 FTs each, etc., even numbers on most other stats.

The Bengals should really have it in mind that they can win this game.

This is stretching it a little, but didn't Idaho win the WNIT back in the 80's? The field was probably smaller, but I seem to recall them doing so (granted, the Big Sky didn't sponser women's sports until the late 80's).

You are correct. Idaho beat Northwestern State in 1986 when the tourney was played in Amarillo, TX.

You're quite very right 'Bengal1.' A slight technicality there, my oversight, but now that you mention it, 1986 according to the University of Idaho Media Guide, with Deb Dobratz as HC, a member of the Mountain West Conference. They had their twin towers in Mary Raese and Mary Westerwelle, both 6' 4" along with Robin Behrens and Netra McGrew. And it was indeed a smaller field, eight teams at the time, if not mistaken.

Boise State defeated Idaho State 77 - 54, giving up 27 offensive rebounds and 66 total while just getting 44 themselves. The Bengal defense did well on holding BSU to a mere 31 % shooting percentage but those offensive rbs also allowed the Broncos to shoot it 85 times.

Better luck next year, I guess.
