Idaho State Bengals Scouting Report

PDX, you're not being a pessimist. The Griz haven't shown anyone, including to themselves, they can win on the road, or stop a downhill running attack, which ISU has with Finney. ISU's defense is god awful, like MSU and EWU god awful, but, Montana's offense isn't lighting the world on fire either so, you are not wrong to assume this is not going to be an easy win. Nothing comes easy for this team it appears. I think, on paper, Montana us light years better than ISU, but, paper hasn't seemed to matter much this season.

I honestly believe EWU is a better matchup for the Griz right now, than ISU is.

True, but ISU craps down their leg. EWU has found a way to win in games they should have lost. I think you will take ISU to the woodshed, plus the griz will have a chip on their shoulder after the PSU loss. EWU will be more competitive.

IF the Griz don't have focus and have a chip on their shoulder then it says a lot about the kids on this team....

Kramer when he wants to be is a very good coach. Most of us dislike him but he can coach. This could be a tough game for us because if they play like they are coached they will be a tough outfit to score on. Kramer is a sneaky and smart coach that has more one liners than Obama.
I mentioned ISU is snake bit now but that could go for us as well.
I will watch in the spud barn with the rest of the Griz fans and it should prove to be interesting.

Does having focus and a chip on the shoulder make up for a talent deficiency? ;)

Kramer lost this locker room EARLY. That defense has given up miles of yardage and their offense couldn't fight its way out of a wet paper bag. SIXTEEN INT's they've thrown. That's not a misprint. Coupled with 8 fumbles lost...their turnover margin alone proves they've given up.

THis one should be a cake walk no matter who is under center.

Whitted wasn't on Portland's participation report. Is he available this week or do we know. Given KVA is probably out we sure could use him.

I think the Bengals have new turf in Holt that is not the green material on the back of a dish washing sponge. Coached wrestling in Idaho for a few years and state was there. It hurt to sit on it, I can't imagine having to play on it.

They did replace it within the last year or so. Its not the old Holt turf.

Superior talent is the only way we have won any games. We run the same offensive and defensive schemes every week. These coaches are incapable of planning for a game. Just practice the same crap we ran last week

Saw a lot of players break bones on that old stuff. ISU lost a running back in 2009, Ryan Bagley's season and maybe career ended on it 2 years prior.

I can't believe that by now anyone thinks these road BSC games are going to be an easy win. We might win easy with a few turnovers and a quick start but chances are it will be a dog fight.

“Keep the Grizzlies out of our building,” Kramer said. “They’re going to travel with two or three thousand. They always do. A lot of people from Montana turn this into a Salt Lake shopping weekend by stopping off in Holt Arena. We want to make sure our fans outnumber their fans and make more noise when they have the ball than when we have the ball.”

ISU and UM both deploy spread offenses and want to wear down defenses with the shear amount of plays they run. Both are wildly talented at receiver and have quality tailbacks who can provide a punch on the ground. And each, despite obvious strengths, has hit lulls offensively.

Blame it on the quarterbacks.

“Neither team has been good enough at quarterback,” Kramer said, “to be able to be a premier team in this conference — flat out.”

Idaho State (2-6, 1-4 Big Sky) hosts Montana (4-4, 3-2) on Saturday at 2:35 p.m. in Holt Arena. Fans can see for themselves just how similar the offenses look in terms of scheme.

And they can check out what’s made the Grizzlies better, too.

“Defense,” Kramer said, “they play better defense.”

So while the Bengals don’t have a thing to play for beyond pride, they can occupy the role of a spoiler.

That’s not the worst situation.

“It’s fun,” said ISU junior linebacker Hayden Stout, “to ruin other teams’ seasons.”
