The overrated Vandy's are up next on the regular season predictions. The Vandy's were 2-4 this spring but could have easily gone 1-5 if it weren't for the botched call in the Eastern game. For whatever reason Sam Herder seems to think the Vandy's will be good this fall. I guess he didn't pay attention to how their spring season went LOL. Fun fact, since Idaho moved down to the FCS, they have yet to play an FCS non-conference opponent. They've all been either FBS or D-2. Let's dive in!
September 4 vs. Simon Fraser- W. The Vandy's got a run for their money in 2019 against Central Washington but historically speaking Simon Fraser has not been very good. I think Idaho's safe in this one.
September 11 @ Indiana-L. Hoosiers were very good last year. Not sure how good they will be this year, but regardless the Vandy's won't have a chance in this one.
September 18 @ Oregon State-L. The improving Beavers. 2 or 3 years ago I would've said this game is a possible win but OSU is starting to get it rolling under Jonathan Smith. Vandy's don't stand a chance.
September 25-BYE. They'll need it after getting their heads beat in 2 straight weeks.
October 2 @ UC Davis-L. Lost by 10 to UC Davis at home in the spring, now on the road, I don't think they'll have a better outcome.
October 9 vs. Portland State-W. I'm expecting a good game but I think the Vandy's find a way to pull it out.
October 16 @ Eastern Washington-L. They always play Eastern tough. They split with them in the spring but lost in Cheney, but I think Eastern finds a way to win this game in the end.
October 23 vs. Montana- L. I would love to go to this game as I have never been to Moscow or the Kibbie Dome before, but I'm taking my grandpa to USC-Notre Dame that weekend which will be a lot of fun. This game will likely be on Root so I'll need to figure out how to watch the game from South Bend. Fingers crossed ESPN+ is allowed to stream Root games. Griz win by 10+.
October 30 vs. Northern Arizona-L. An improving Jacks team knocked off Idaho in the spring 19-9. This one's in Moscow and could be close, but I think NAU takes this one.
November 6 vs. Southern Utah-W. This was a close game that the vandy's were lucky to win in the Spring 33-32. I have faith they will not make that near catastrophic mistake again, but nothing ever really surprises me with Idaho.
November 13 @ Montana State-L. Another team the Vandy's have traditionally played well. We all remember the controversial missed extra point call from 2018. Was it good or not? I think this will be close but the cats pull away late.
November 20 @ Idaho State-W. The Vandy's lost to ISU 24-22 in the spring and could very well drop this one as well. Both teams will likely be out of gas by the time we get to this game. Rivalry game though and playing for pride. 50/50 game in my mind but I'll take the Vandy's.
I got Idaho going 4-7. Honestly the only other game I can see them maybe winning is the NAU game and maybe MSU if it's a bad day for the the cats but I would honestly be surprised if they did any better than 5-6 this fall and that's deserving after Paul Petrino's ridiculous comments that he thinks the FCS season from now on should always be contested in the spring with only money games in the fall. :?
