I wonder...

...if Stitt would still be here if this was a normal year and a 7-4 Big Sky team made the playoffs? Let's assume we get an easy first rounder and lose in the 2nd round. Would we still be looking for a new coach after that?

Hard to say but I'm glad things worked out the way they did. I'm sure stitt is a good guy but he left me scratching my head way too many times. As the head coach he should have been screaming at semore to get the job done on D. At some point as head coach you need to step in when necessary and demand an adjustment be made. That was my biggest problem with this staff. In the EWU game... any pedestrian fan could see what was happening yet we did absolutely nothing to change our approach. same kind of thing with the cats, had a whole year to figure out how to stop the run, the most basic thing in football defense. stop the run. couldn't get it done. bad loss to rival and playoff hopes snuffed out for the second year in a row. rightfully fired.

That is exactly what kind of coach we had in Stitt. One who would always have a winning season, but couldn't ever beat the good teams. Stitt would have never taken a Griz team to the NC, NEVER!
Mediocre at best.

I think his challenge was straight forward; Have the Griz beat the cats and make the playoffs.

Achieving both would have probably earned him a new 3 yr deal.

Failing one but achieving the other probably would have given him another 1 or 2 yr contract.

Failing at both opened up a head coaching position.
