Too many egrizzers have never dealt with any adversity (as a Griz fan...not talking about life in general here) as the Griz have won without question for years and years. They either weren't born yet or can't remember anything prior to the mid 90s.

Always thought one should be a fan when their team "wins" and "loses". Not just "wins". If all it takes is a few close losses for your fans to jump off the wagon then the Griz are better off without em.

Who said anything about leaving? I'm a lifelong Raiders fan. It's been a tough last decade. However I think you can bash your team for being stupid and still love them.

Perhaps, but it makes you a bad fan. I'd like to see you bash the players and coaches to their face, or their parents face, and see the reaction you'd get--especially in the off season. I recall a coach decking a bad fan who was in his face at a downtown watering hole after a loss. Maybe it was you.

perhaps that is true. but then wouldn't it make a person who calls names on a message board a "bad person" too? or do these rules only apply if someone has the nerve to not agree with every aspect of a football team?

I swore the last FB coach and I got drunk downtown but then I can't remember after ten. Perhaps he was a fake. Next time I will have him ID proof of his position. Come to think of it I'd much rather drink with a female coach downtown.

The fans do have the right to criticize the team's performance when need be, and let's not kid ourselves, there is a lot of blame to pass around this season.

Still, a terrible season or not, the Griz need their fans support and dedication all the same. If your a Griz fan only when their winning, your no better than the legions jumping on the Cat bandwagon.

Your assumptions are questionable Savage Paw. You say Griz fans have "thrown the community under the bus." This is what you appear to be saying: the fans are the cause of pressure/non-pressure to university coaches/leaders causing university leaders to be soft which in turn allowed the conduct of players to blow up out of control even though little of this problematic player conduct has ever been substantiated. Isn't there any accountability by the university leaders and players? Shouldn't the actual problematic player conduct be substantiated first before just rumor and gossip becomes the truth? We the fans are the main cause to the problems? I live outside of Missoula and do NOT know who is raping who behind the scenes and I have no power with the coaching staff/administration. I am glad you told us so and if we fans would have just listened to you and other elite e-grizzers and did something magical then this problem would never have come back to bite the football team. The fans are the cause of the current problems or I am misinterpreting you?

I do not wish to put words in the mouth of Savage Paw, but want to respond to this. IMO, to be a "fan" you must support your team whether they are winning every game, losing every game or somewhere in between. It's appropriate to WANT to win, to be sad when we lose and to be frustrated when plays don't fall into place. But to DEMAND perfection, to boo your own team, to leave the stadium before the game ends because we are going to lose, or to criticize the entire program promotes a "win at all costs" attitude. If we are going to change our image and make certain that the guys wearing maroon are young men of character and good role models, then we need to roll with a few punches and accept that there will be some growing pains.

Your counterpoint is not wrong but is not really germaine to granite's counterpoint to savage. The implication that I as a fan was permissive and so I contributed to the mess is a myth perpetuated by contingent who think they are important enough to affect what happens at the U (no I am not talking about Miami). The people in charge are the ones to blame. Yes, perhaps in some way they thought that their choices is what other people wanted but they own their decisions. Period, end of discussion. Blaming the fans is just a bunch of misdirection that helps to take the pressure off of the people who fucked up.
