I like the Stitt hire but 1 concern.....

This hire by Engstrom reminds me of when MSU hired Earl Solmonson. Like them, it will set us back for years.

Exactly. The Mick Delaney era continues, with a new face. Now we know Haslam is just a sock puppet on Engstroms hand.

Both of these posts are not even close to reality.

Stitt has to prove himself. I just express my opinion. Solomonson had a good roll at NDSU, then took the Cats into the toilet. We'll just have to wait and see what he produces. If I'm wrong, I'll admit it. If Stitt kills Griz football, will you have the balls to admit YOU were wrong? We should be anticipating BobbyBall instead of this StittStorm.

Ignore this idiot.

He created this "funny" e-griz character (which is a total flop), and all he does is rag on Royce and Mick. Its lame. Every post is the exact same.

Most people just ignore his posts, though he has yet to notice and take the hint.

Thank you Raider. You saved me from responding to him and you said exactly what I was going to say.

In the immortal words of Mick Delaney "we have to be able to run the ball on offense and stop the run on defense to win in this league." It will be interesting to see how long it takes Stitts to find out the speed of division 1 football is much faster than what he's used to. I hope he keeps Justin Green in the loop. He will be a good asset.

Three things: 1) We have run the ball well the last few years, but didn't win the league. Eastern, who can run but also throws all over the place, wins conference titles regularly, 2) Word is that Green will stick around, which I very much hope is true, 3) Defense will be key...Eastern could score almost at will this year, but couldn't stop anyone (except the Griz, apparently). The news that Gregorak is sticking around is very good news. Also, I saw an interview with someone close to Stitt that said he basically stays away from the defense altogether and leaves that to his D coordinator. Also good news, in my opinion.

We weren't great running the ball this year, therefore that was a reason we didn't win the conference. We were 7th in our conference. And I don't care what Eastern does, I don't want to be Eastern. I want to do what NDSU is doing and thats winning National Championships. How do you do it? Run the ball and play action off it. And they play great defense because they are fresh. Why are they fresh?? Because their offense controls the game. Thats how you win at every level. It's as simple as that and thats not my formula. That's what history shows. West Virginia, Washington St and Texas Tech are all fun programs to watch that have learned stuff from Stitt, but none of those teams will ever win a National Championship. I want to be competing for titles.

Stitt will take whatever the defense gives him on every single down.

I want him to take MORE than the defense gives on every single down.

I know, right? But everything I've read so far sounds like the guy is a real competitor. The more I know about him, the better I like him.

But, as they say, we shall see...

Did I read correctly that this guy got knocked out of the first round of the d2 playoffs last year???

This Stitt is a coach that is far beyond the lower brained egrizers that rave about compost mounds and seek advice concerning the bra cup size for second graders. Stodgy and drab!

The doubters of what Stitt intends to do should remember how Don Read "ran" the ball. He threw it out wide where there wasn't 7-8 people stacked in the box waiting for the run up the middle. You BobbyBall lovers probably all get together and watch reruns of the early 2000's Dallas Cowboys where they could announce to the defense "We are running Emmit left side off tackle, and you won't be able to stop it." That is exactly what BH attempted to do which was exactly the same thing as Marty Schotenheimer, neither of them won championships but every year they did it over and over and over, kinda like jerking off.

How many of you stupid fuckers that kneel at Bobby's feet, said the same things about him...a special teams coordinator, when he was hired?

I know most of you hated the Pflu hire because "how can you be in coaching this long and only be a receivers coach?"

You're all idiots...Stitt was a fantastic hire. He'll finish what Pflu started, before the "three year dead period," and he'll bring back the hardware that Bobby couldn't and Pflu would've.

Morons...every single one of you.

His ability to run the ball. Here in Missoula we love to sling it around the field like we did in the Dickenson era. But the game has changed. If you look at all successful programs they all can run the ball. For example:

NDSU National Champs in 2012 & 2013 they led the Missouri Valley in rushing. Them and Illinois State are 1 and 2 this year and both teams still happen to be in the playoffs.

This years 4 FCS playoff teams: Oregon(1st in PAC-12)
Ohio St. (2nd in Big 10)
Alabama (3rd in the SEC)
Florida St. They are the exception. Not great rushing team.

Last year Auburn was 1st in the SEC and 1st in the country in rushing offense and played for the national championship.
Florida St. was 2nd in the ACC last year. They were 22 out of 120+ teams in the country and won the national championship.

Stitts teams-
2012-6th out of 10 teams conference teams.
2013-4th out of 10 teams.
2014-8th out of 10 teams.

I love being able to throw the ball, but I love winning more. Can we win throwing it? I'm sure we can win some. But can we beat the good teams doing it? I don't know. History shows me we won't.

I hope I am wrong and I think we hired a good guy. This was just my biggest concern.
Go Griz!

Solid post and legit reasoning. I thought it was interesting that Mike Leach wanted to see how he ran so well in the January 6, 2012 businessofcollegesports.com article ↔
Beyond Fundamentals: The Story of Bob Stitt and the Colorado School of Mines Football Team

"What Stitt was able to do with a group of engineers that season was not lost on other coaches. Then the head coach at Texas Tech, Mike Leach contacted Stitt about trading film, because he wanted to see how the Orediggers were running the ball so well in a passing offense. According to Stitt, Leach was impressed with what he saw. Holgorsen was an assistant coach under Leach, so it is likely then that Holgorsen first was introduced to Stitt’s Fly Sweep play, or what Holgorsen calls, “Quick.”"

This offense will produce the 1,000 yard running back once the oline and back in place have that ability. Germer is key in this. Great hire.

I agree that you need to run to usually win in all tough games. I see ndsu a lot and if they didn't throw the ball better this year they wouldn't be in the semi's....same with Alabama. They all run this fly sweep as well like so many.... But that one play doesn't define this offense. It is a combo of Oregon and Auburns offense from what I watched and read. Griz need the dominating olines of old no matter what they do to win big time games late in season. As soon as ndsu or Alabama loses that, they will struggle.
