Then somebody needs to write Rob a check for a LOTS BIGGER recruiting budget. And, yes, MSU's recruiting budget is larger than UM's.

Money isn't the answer here. The Lady Griz draw larger crowds than most programs of any size. The University, itself, may be the best recruiter. I rarely see (or should say, saw) UM represented at any high school college fairs held every year in Calif., or Az, or Nv high schools...MSU is there, sadly enough....unlike many of the mens' programs, womens' sports are more for the fun and personal achievement...or, heavens forbid, attending a respected and admired university that is willing to look beyond its traditional self limitations..

Are you serious? If you are then you really don't have a clue about recruiting. Do you think college fairs is the place to be when it comes to recruiting. You tout msu like they are the example of how to do it. You might want to see how the bobkittens have done against Selvig. You obviously haven't a clue.

The Pittsburg player described the Griz in one word and it not likely to change any time soon..She referred to the LG as one of those "plodding" teams...."plodding" doesn't win many games these days, unless the opposition is plodding...and that generally is the Big Sky women's style. The game has moved on and is faster than ever....good defense and speed....

Nowhere was this more evident than in last year's playoff game with Vanderbilt, where the LG were blown out.

It doesn't take money to appear at college fairs....do you even know what they are? These are evenings reps from the colleges, usually local alumni, appear with literature, presentations, etc and talk to kids thinking of college....if that is not in the budget, then Montana has absolutely no business having any athletic programs at all....they simply cannot afford it...yikes...things are that bad at UM?

I did not take MSU as having know how...I mentioned they are represented there by a couple of local alumnus or one of the recruiters the school sends out....you are reading far more into what I said....In the larger inner city schools, and elsewhere, the kids know nothing of UM or a lot of other places....this is NOT athletic recruiting..it is exposing the kids to alternative universities other than the local schools...if there is a pamphlet or two regarding the UM athletic programs, well, that is not recruiting....it opens eyes....how do you think schools get some of these kids, anyway? Do they have college fairs at Montana high schools? They didn't when I was there, so that may be why you don't get what I'm saying...it takes a table, a banner, a college catalogue and dedicated alumnus to show up and promote the school or interest....that is not something I have seen UM do, but I have seen it from MSU, Carroll College, even Rocky Mountain...schools like Beverly Hills High have colleges competing for space...they are well attended....

First off, it was Pitt who the LG played last year. Second, that terrible, "plodding" team not only managed to stay competitive with one of the top 10 teams in the nation, but lead and controlled almost all of the first half. Yeah, they got blown out in the second, mostly due to Pitt stepping up, hitting shots and getting things going but the LG also panicked and fell apart mentally in the 2nd to make the game seem like it wasn't even competitive.

If you read through the Pitt game thread last year, a lot of people were pretty upbeat and impressed by the LG performance in the first half, despite our "lack" of speed/talent. I think the LG's style in past years was fine, they just need to not panic, play an entire game, and do their thing. (Admittedly, it doesn't hurt to have "ballers" or players that attack the rim like Mandy and Rogers did. That is usually the difference at the Lady's level.) This year, we will have to wait and see what this team's identity is and who will emerge as a leader for them.

If only it were that simple...the LG did not panic, they were outcoached, outplayed, and had not one idea of what to do in a fast paced double team situation...sorry, bball has 2 halves...

First off, it was Pitt who the LG played last year.

Ok, I was looking at the wrong schedule. But, still, losing 64-35? I still think the "plodding" description of LG play in that game is apt. I still see that picture of Sonya Rogers on the floor with the ball, with 2 Pitt players on her. Maybe "Lady" ought to be taken out of the moniker. Maybe "Griz Girlz." Unfortunately, the BSC provides no adequate competition for the LG for when they run into the buzzsaws in the playoffs. It may be that the LG must not just beat, but dominate BSC competition, decisively, if they are going to have any chance to advance in the playoffs. They know what it takes to compete in the playoffs (I hope). From day one they have to compete in the BSC as if they are competing against an eastern playoff team, and blow out one BSC team after another.
