I HATE Idaho game thread

Solid win.

The Griz were clearly the better team. Had they not gone stone cold for the first 7 minutes of the second half, this could easily have been a 20+ point game.

I liked the hustle on the boards and the over all D tonight. A few things to work on, and they've got to shoot FTs better. But overall, a nice night.

I'm gonna go have some mashed 'taters. :thumb:

Where did this Martin kid come from. This is the first time I have seen him hustle and really play hard this year. He was mobile, active and aggressive. It was the kind of performance from him that I have been hoping for.

I remember years ago Jim Brandenburg telling me that every now and then you have to grab and twist the family jewels to motivate him. Maybe that happened tonight.

Tinks:

We were sluggin' rats for awhile.

Want to get back to Griz BB swagger. And that doesn't mean pounding our chest, putting pistols in holsters, but rather getting gritty and playing D.

Andy Martin was fired up. Thought he was very good at the rim on D. Got Boards, played D. Got some man sized boards and altered shots. Hutch's minutes were better, but got into foul trouble.

Played hard and were rewarded with a W.

Dunn: made big FTs. Sometimes out of place on D.

We played both zone and man, and our guys made good adjustments.

Hill for spuds: He's great and made tough shots. "He's got range like me", Tinks said. Gotta defend him better next time.

Dean did a great job on KJ, but thinks it wore him out a little. It's a different system for him, but he'll be fired up to face us in Moscow.

Outrebounded them in the first half, but we didn't do a good job on zone block outs in the 2nd half. But we held a team under 40 percent. Happy with the team played.

Hard to take a charge. We have to adjust. I still think there's a 50/50 deal, but this game had a BSC playoff type feel to it. We gotta buckle up and go make plays.

Wise: 3 big treys. We talked to him about respounding. We need him to give us both D, O and boards, cause we're small with him out there.

I think he got a little bit of bite from his father in that game. His father is a big tough guy, yet a great guy too. Great family. :thumb:

I was very impressed with the obvious effort the Griz made last night in terms of rebounding. Guys were really fighting for position. Andy Martin convinced me that he is a legit D1 center and he put out a great effort. Hutch continues to have woes rebounding (he had zip last night) and catching and controlling the ball. Hopefully, Chris Kemp will come around soon. He picked up two quick fouls last night and never saw the floor again.

Martin showed some potential in this game. If he can play like that consistently I don't think anyone can argue that he shouldn't start and get the vast majority of playing time. If he plays like that we may be able to earn the bid to the NCAA tourney again this year though I still think it will be much more difficult than last year. I think it would be fun to see what kind of a boost this team would get from receiving a similar level of support from griz nation that the football team does. Such as an arena packed with vocally supportive fans. The recognition could really ignite a player like Jamar and probably the rest of the team. I don't live in Missoula anymore unfortunately and am wondering what the university does to promote attendance locally.
