I don't sense the excitement

Any thread showing excitement from fans on egriz is immediately taken over by Griz haters from within our ranks. We got admin haters, coach haters, DB haters, O line haters, success haters and AG1 haters. Wait a sec. I might be guilty myself.

Just kidding AG don't go "coastal!"

Anyways I'm excited and bringing over a couple employees who are NDSU alumni to check out the Griz. Not sure if they will be rooting for or against us however.

not wild excitement....
is it the expansion to 24 teams and sitting for a week?
is it that coastal and big south aren't very familiar?
all of the "new" folks may not be viewed as very good-- kind of seen as behind MEAC teams -- not like when it was a nationwide draw with Atlantic (JMU for one) and southern teams (Wofford) that we had heard about and kind of knew about... how much do we know of big south and pioneer?

familiarity may breed contempt but unfamiliarity may breed less interest...

or not

Had lunch at Paradise Falls with some clients, we talked about the upcoming game. Walking out bumped into a lender I know, we talked about it, also bumped into a fellow egrizzer sitting at another table and we also chatted about it. In my office that's mostly what the football fans are talking about.

I sense it's on a lot of people's minds, but they don't know what to expect in terms of the outcome of the game, so they chat more about the weather and how cold it's going to be. Back in 2011 and especially 2009 the buzz was about looking forward to the great game, seeing the stud players on the other teams, and who we'd get the next round.

I honestly think another thing is that a lot of fans are also readily aware that if the Griz win their playoff run will most likely come to a halt the next week at NDSU. Can't help but wonder if the thought that the chance for a national title is slim to none so the excitement just isn't there as much. Just a hunch. Not how I feel, but I bet some are feeling that way.

Does anyone else sense that our fan base is bored? I don't really feel like the town is wired like it usually is, especially after missing the playoffs last year.

The bored fans will jump back on board when we shock NDSU.
Or the fans are pessimistic about our odds IF we advance to play NDSU and gave up on the season

I think there's some truth to that, but if we beat Coastal Carolina convincingly and advance, people will get fired up for the chance to beat NDSU, even if it's a slim chance.

People on this side of the State are fired up. Of course we don't have a mall to idle our time in after the games.

I think the point others have made about the inevitability of losing to NDSU is valid. My heart thinks the Griz have a shot against anybody, but I'm sure a lot of people feel like the season is over next week. However, in my way of thinking, that would make Saturday a can't miss game, as it's the last time the seniors will ever play in Wash-Griz. But I guess I think differently than others. COLD temperatures is at the very bottom of the list of reasons I would skip a Griz playoff game. But that's just me.

Almost everyone I've run into has talked about the game. I'm excited. Have 16 tickets--so far.

If UM can beat CC, and I think they should, then I'll be excited to play NDSU. UM v. NDSU would be a great battle. I'm not afraid to play NDSU, and I'm sure the players won't be either--assuming they take care of business against CC. NDSU is good, but they are far from invincable.

I am extremely excited! Have my 12 tickets as usual. I am not looking forward to drive on the crappy roads though. We will be there, frozen and happy as pigs in shit!

Average Griz fan at early games:

This isn't a conference game, so it doesn't matter right?

Average Griz fan in the playoffs:

I've never heard of this team. They must be a high school team

...and to balance this post out, the average Bobcat fan in the playoffs:

I think we have a pretty good shot at winning it all

In the immortal words of Dave Dickenson after the 1995 NC win: "To be the best, you've got to beat the best." Just as well happen at NDSU early in the playoffs!!!

I can't speak for everyone but, given the chilly forecast, I've decided to leave my snakes at home. Tough to get too fired up without a backpack full of rally snakes.

Being laid up, more or less, I have been able to follow the Griz this season and I sense that the excitement has been low the ENTIRE season except for a few people on this site. Either the coach is the worst, incapable, old, or worse, the offense is non existent, the wins were over incredibly untalented teams, the uniforms are ugly, the mascot stinks, the act is old, people leave mid 2nd quarter and do not return until the end of the 3rd, if at all, the noise level, the absence of students, the FCS, etc. or something as intangible as the weather is to blame for accidentally getting a 10-2 record. I don't even know why the Griz will be playing this week end since it is a sure win, but surely they will just forfeit to NDSU should Coastal Carolina be too cold to take the field. So, why be excited over nothing? Right? Right?
