Before I get too deep, let me just say I don’t believe in luck, at least to the extent that something or someone may be good or bad luck for your team. I do believe that lucky things randomly happen to people wether it be good or bad. The 5+ INT’s that just happen to bounce Ford’s way this year were partially due to good luck. There are many other instances were we just say, “that’s the way the ball bounces.” That being said, it has been brought to my attention by my father that I may be bad luck and a curse for the Griz.
Now for my back story. I was born and raised a Griz fan and will always bleed maroon for my Grizzlies. In the summer of 2010, I moved away from my lifelong home of Missoula to the Deep South in Northern Alabama. At the time of my departure, I vowed that whenever the Griz were within a 1,000 miles of us, we’d be there cheering our Griz like I was at home at WaGriz. Well 12 years later with trips to Knoxville Tn(‘11), Boone NC(‘13), Lynchburg Va(‘15), Macomb Il(‘18), and now Harrisonburg Va. as you all remember, we lost all of those games, making the Griz 0-5 in games that I’ve attended since I left.
Now to the meat of my “curse”. After the collapse in Macomb in ‘18, I mentioned to my dad how I wish the Griz would win a game that I’ve attended. He began to explain how he thinks that my leaving Missoula was the beginning of a curse that I put on the Griz for leaving. I very first started attending Griz games in the fall of ‘86 at the brand new Washington-Grizzly stadium and instantly became a rabid fan of the Griz, attending almost every home game from the rise of our dominance through ‘09, with my grand finale being the epic showdown vs App St. I don’t need to go into details of how the program took a downward spiral(by Montana standards) after that. My farther relates my leaving to placing a curse on the Griz and that until I move back, they will never be the same. To make matters worse, two very winnable games that I most certainly would have attended, Missouri St and Western Carolina, have been scratched from the schedule, taking away my low hanging fruit.
Obviously this is not true and I do not believe in curses against sports teams, just random bad luck. Im sure, against most of your wishes, I will continue to go to every Griz game within a days driving distance. Eventually we gotta break through on one of these and I lose this “curse” cloud. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut sometimes. Im not writing this to ask for any advice or such. I mostly just wanted to share my story. Obviously all comments are welcome though. One last thing, if I for some reason turn up missing before my next Griz game, my family knows about this post and it will be considered motive to investigate any shenanigans by you fellow eGrizers against me, just a friendly warning.
Anyone that feels they need to write this much on a fan message board is obviously bringing the team down.
Well I’m sure you can tell I’m heavily involved with the team, so I feel the need write this much…on a fan forum
