I was at the cougar game in Pullman when the griz played in 1995. The game was essentially over with the cougars up by a couple touchdowns with a minute or so to go. RS Freshman Ryan leaf came in the game. They announced that he was from Montana and everyone assumed he would hand it off or take a knee. He threw a long bomb for a really cheap TD. I'm sure it was his first TD as a cougar.

I was there and remember well. Really hadn’t heard of him before but have been convinced he’s a dickhead ever since.

Attendance is not a requirement for fandom. I attended The U, my wife attended The U, my son attended The U but neither of my daughters did. Are they not allowed to be fans? Who is the official gatekeeper of fandom?

I would LOVE for UM to be my alma mater, but the Navy had a different take. I tried like hell to get attached to the Army ROTC unit there, but as a squid, they frowned on that and forced me to go to the University of Idaho.

Does being born and raised in Missoula and attending UM for one singular year allow me to be a UM fan?

I am so, so happy he chose the side that he did. I know we don't have to like everybody in the fanbase, but it is nice to not have one of the most public scumbags in Montana rooting for the Griz.
