I am not trying to start an argument but can someone explain what this phrase means. I have seen it used in arguments/discussions on eGriz in the past and never understood it. Does it mean that if you played football in high school you are more knowledgeable than someone that didn't or do you have to have played in college? And is there a time frame on how long ago you played. Does someone who played in the wishbone or triple option era really know that much about today's game unless they have kept up with the advancements in plays. I played in high school the late 80's for a coach that ran the option so I feel that having run that offense does not help me in being more knowledgeable of a passing offense than someone who didn't play. Please someone help me understand this phrase.

Plus, I live a long ways away from Missoula. Too far away and too far removed to know anything.

It's PR's catch phrase and was used heavily in the famous e-Griz Flame Wars of 2009-2015. Still brings a smile to my face especially when PR uses it for comedic affect. It's become an e-Griz esoteric term much like being band, Kessman, Coach Ron Ash or getting the games on your toaster.

It has nothing to do with anything you said. It means what it says. In this case, it is clear that the particular poster "never played the game". It doesn't mean that anyone has to have had played the game. In fact, it means nothing for or to anyone other than the poster it was directed at.

Why is it so hard for some people to just read the words, and understand them? I always it interesting that a comment like that apparently makes others nervous or defensive, and causes them to make posts like you did.

It would be like this. I say this: "Obviously, X has never been to Missoula". Then, people like say: "Does that mean everyone has to have been in Missoula, or can't post unless they have been to Missoula. Does it count if I drove by Missoula on the Interstate, or flew over Missoula?"

I can read posts and see from what people say, that they obviously never played the game. I can see posts and know that someone has never been a lawyer. Can you not read posts and realize that someone has never been a surgeon, or whatever?

I have come to enjoy the phrase, because sometimes it seems to cause posters to break down and cry, or close to it. I find it interesting that a little phase like that can cause some posters to become unglued.

On most college teams, there are usually 2-3 position players who can throw a football as far as their QB. But, they don't play the QB position. Why? Because they lack the other MOST IMPORTANT attributes required to play that position.

Here are some other traits which make a great college QB. I will place them in order of importance from my prospective. As you can see, arm strength is way down the list. I would like to see your opinions in ranking these qualities in YOUR order of importance.

As a side note, Bobby has commented on the arm strength of our starter, Sneed, over Cam, which he states may be the more accurate passer of the two. From what I have observed in practice, Wilson has plenty of arm strength too, but combines accuracy to the equation. Is Wilson going to be the eventual answer at QB? Yes, in my opinion. But we will know much more after 2-3 games.

Here is how I rank QB attributes. Please post your order:

1) Passing Accuracy
2) Leadership
3) Pre-snap analysis of defense, dictating play-calling/audibles
4) Running Ability
5) Arm Strength

Sneed has #2, 4, & 5 in spades. We will not know about # 3 until we see him live in games. But it is #1 that concerns me, from watching him in practice. Just my observations, and am interested in reading yours.

If you really had gone to practices and watched Sneed, you would have seen that he has been accurate in practices. Hopefully, he will be in games too.

Jamarcus Russell had a strong arm! Ryan Leaf had a strong arm! Take accuracy over arm strength any day.
