Huse

Either way, a bit of a bold move for an athletic department that isn't flush with cash to buy out the last year of his contract. Wonder if the delay was to make sure they had enough private money accounted for to do the buy out.

Didn't they just extend him?

I am still surprised Brad didn't make it work there. I thought he would be a really good hire for them.

Last year. He had one year remaining, I believe.

Last year he signed for two more years, so he had one year left.
So did a lot of people. His offense just didn't work.

i'd be a bit nervous now if i were an assistant coach at utah.

i really thought they'd give him another year, on the strength of his incoming recruiting class. i think it could be the best in the big sky.

but this was a business calculation. there's revenue in them thar seats, and the bucks a new coach and re-invigorated program can put in those seats will likely exceed the payout.

I actually wouldn't mind if Huse headed back to UM. Obviously not an opening right now, but perhaps Kerry Rupp moves on. Maybe Huse could spend a year as director of basketball operations, since he was bought out and has a little extra cushion in his bank account right now.

Ken Bone was let go at Washington State today. MSU AD Fields: "I'd look at Ken Bone."

Huse always seemed to have a good incoming class, which then turned into a boring slow offense. As one poster put it over there you could give Huse both Rodney Stuckey and Damien Lillard on the same team and he'd hold them to 10 points a game.

He recruited speed, quickness and athleticism... then ran an offense that didn't use any of that but instead slowed down the pace to a painful to watch level.

Their attendance over the years shows how fun they've been to watch lately... a couple years ago their attendance dropped below 3000 fans for the first time since a year back in the 70s I think when they were awful. Then the next year it dropped further...and this year it was down aroudn 2200something.

AVG attendance over the past few years:
2009-2010: 3,389
2010-2011: 3,228
2011-2012: 2,922
2012-2013: 2,523
2013-2014: 2,200+ (Under 2300 I think)

Combine that with the fact they've had 0 season with above .500 records against D1 opponents, 0 seasons in the top 200 for RPI, and only 1 season under Huse with an above .500 record in conference and you can see why it was time to move on...even if he does have yet another impressive recruiting class coming in.

I wonder how Huse's departure will impact the incoming recruits? I would not mind us getting the big post player from England. I hear he is a pretty good post player that should be very good in the Big Sky.
